I was told by a person on another site that Chevrolet truck carburetors on the 216 engine changed to a "high cover" between 1951 and 1952 model years. I took this to mean that the top casting had a higher neck starting in 1952. Is this right? And if so - does anyone here have a picture of the "correct" 1952 carburetor? Any help appreciated.

the bowl cover was made higher (thicker) around the outer edge requiring longer screws. Had some internal improvements also.
The 1950 and 1951 low cover carburestors tended to be troublesome on some cars. In late 1951 the new high cover carb. was factory installed on Power Glide 235 engine cars. In 1952 ALL engines got the new and improved carb. On earlier 216 and 235 engines having problems high cover carbs. were installed under warranty to keep owners happy.
There are pictures in the 1949-1953 shop manual for both.

Just noticed your message again. I believe I am the one that made the "post" on the other chat site.
With your email address I could send you the manual pictures.

Thanks for the info. The top picture shows my current carburetor, and the other is (I believe) the one I need to find. At least, it appears consistent with the section view in the 1952 shop manual supplement (which I somehow missed when I was putting the truck together). Does this look right? I appreciate the help; I'd like to get it right.

Is the throat diameter the same, or will I need a different air cleaner?

After 1952 if you purchased a new carburetor from Chevrolet it would be the later high cover design regardless of the year of your car.

Is the Rochester Model B Carburetors a significant improvement over the Carter W-1's on the 216 engines? I know that the Carter W-1 carb seems to "boil out" the gasoline after you stop.

They all have that problem.
The best W-1 is the 1941-1948 model with the 1949 still better.
They are too lean for 1937-1940 engines causing a surge at mid speeds.
I tried them all on my '39 and the original carb. worked the best.
The Rochesters got better through the years also with the "about" 1955 and up the better of the bunch.

Gene, nothing there and nothing in the "spam" filter. Probably some issue on my end. Any chance you can post the picture here on the forum?

Thanks again
