Greetings...I am wanting to update my wire harness for a 31 Chevy truck. This would include a update on a generator along with a 6 volt regulator. Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.

By "updating", are you planning to "replace" the listed items or "repair and/or "rebuild" the mentioned items ?

I want to replace my wiring harness with a new one that will accommodate a generator and a 6vt regulator. Can a generator with a cut out be rewired or do I need a diff generator. I am just not sure about this...
Thanks

I have read and heard of the "cut out generator", but do not understand its function.

All "old" cars had a cut-out. If there was a voltage regulator or control it was built into that unit. The cut-out disconnected the battery from the generator when the engine was not running or running too slow for the generator to charge.Without it the generator would draw the battery down when engine not runnning..

I thought the "cut out" was referring to what we see in our modern day car, allowing the alternator to take a time out, in order to save horsepower. Thought we went full circle, thus my question. Thanks.

Thanks Be more efficient to use a later matched 40's gen and reg. If neutralizing the field resistance wire is no big deal it should be an easy swap but I'm having difficultly seeing any noticeable improvement. What's the complaint? Ron Francis or Y&Z can make any harness you want but when it comes to custom work, the communication must be crystal clear. I would talk to both and see if your plan will meet your expectations.

thanks for all of the replies. I believe I will go with a later yr version of a generator. The one I have is shot according to the shop that tested it.
