hi there,
today I discovered that the fuel tank cap also FITS the radiator of my 1935 chevrolet standard.

My radiator cap is leaking and damaged so I put the fuel cap on the radiator and no more leaking..now need a big cork for the fuel tank or a red rag? idea

There is one important difference between the two. The gas cap is and must be vented to allow air to enter the tank to take place of the consumed gasoline. If no air enters a vacuum will form and no gas will be supplied to the engine. This can also cause the tank to collaspe.

hi there,
interesting reply.
I checked the cap and it has no ventilation, it was used on the cleaned tank to stop any dust going into it whilst the car was under restoration. I subsequently bought a locking cap from the filling station and that is what is on the car now.
Good job that it was not left on the car.
thank you for the information Chev nut driving
