Master cylinder bore is 1"
Front wheel cylinder is 1 5/16"
rear wheel cylinder is 1 1/8"
Different part number for l.f. and rt. frt.
Rears are the same for either side.

The 1949 and 1950 wheel cylinders have a different bore than the 1936-1948. The 1936-1948 are often sold for replacements as the 1949-1950 are not being reproduced.
The 1949-1950 had a larger front bore and smaller rear due to the 1949-1950 had more weight on the front wheels and less on the rear.

"The 1949-1950 had a larger front bore and smaller rear due to the 1949-1950 had more weight on the front wheels and less on the rear".

Rounding off numbers, 58% at front, while 42% at the rear.

Hello Again, just check in with the Napa store and they do have Wheel cylinders p/n 4358 1"3/8 but they show that it is for a truck and not a car ( front ) will this work ??

#2 just checked with Kanter they will sell you all four Wheel Cyl but they are all 1"5/16 bore is this bore O.K. for the rear.????

Thank you for the help! AL

Chevy designed these wheel cylinders, with different bores, for very specific reasons.

I would NOT vary from the factory bore specs, shown to you, in a previous post.

Why do you have the need to replace all cylinders, instead of rebuilding the factory wheel cylinders ?

If you must replace wheel cylinders, here are the GM PART NUMBERS and GM CASTING NUMBERS for your 1950.

The CASTING NUMBERS will tell you if you have the correct cylinders on the car NOW.

LEFT FRONT PART # 5450989. LEFT FRONT CASTING # 5450991.

RIGHT FRONT PART # 5450988. RIGHT FRONT CASTING # 5450990.

REAR PART # 5300867. REAR CASTING # 1074899.

You can use the part numbers above to google and see if they are out there, as a N.O.S. part.

If your casting numbers are correct, you could also opt to have the factory wheel cylinders sleeved, if scoring within the bore is your concern.

I have the the larger 1 3/16" on the rear of my '50. See no problems as you would have to lock-up the brakes to find out and with the high pedal pressure brakes on a 1949-1950 that is next to impossible to do. Also would depend on the weight in the back seat and trunk.
Would be best to keep the 1 5/16" on the front if possible.

I, personally, will not change cylinder sizes.

All factory wheel cylinder parts numbers are either on ebay or have been on ebay. They seem to be out there.

I replaced the master cylinder (what a job that was) and now I see some leakage on the inside of the front wheels. I am going to focus on the front cylinders only! I will check the numbers on the cast and try to rebuild if cast numbers match

The only reason that I was going to buy all four was that Kanters had all four for $187.00 with no core required.
BUT 1"5/16 bore.
and everybody else wanted between $60.00 and $95.00 per.

Thanks for all your help! the rest of us sure do appreciate
having you really smart guys around you sure help the rest of us save TIME and MONEY..
