Anyone know what color this 40 Chev is? Is it a factory color? I don't see a match on the 40 paint chip sheet..

IF it is a US color it could be Kingston Gray with a yellow reflection from something.

It looks like this 1940 Chevy was photographed in a museum or someone's car collection ? FYI. There are many Chevys out there that are painted in shades / hues / colors that were not original colors. Lighting and other factors often change / alter what we are really seeing.

The light gray on my '50, which is original, comes out in different colors in pictures also. The most accurate way it reproduces is in natural sun light.

It might be a special CALIFORNIA BEIGE optional colour available in ***California only***, according to my friend MR 59 who collects paint chips and books covering 1937---1967

The aluminum firewall fisher body build tag should say under its stamped in PAINT NO. what colour is.

I also see the writer of the post is in B C Canada. The firewall tag and where the car was built originally will determine whats possibly correct.

That was my toughts also but when I checked the Dupont sheets there are no California colors listed for 1940.
There are for some other years.

Hi, in the back of the factory parts books there is a section that is called the paint combination chart. If you have seen this car and it is in fact tan or beige, there is listed under 1940 com.#270-arden beige duco no.21353042, & #280-California beige duco no. 25337053, these numbers are out of my 41 parts book feb 1 41 pg#410 and my 48 parts book april 1948 pg#631 hope this helps.

I will have to look further, but I believe that the California colors for 1940 included:

California Beige #280
Alameda Green # 281
Beach Ivory # 282

These 3 colors are listed in the 1929-1940 Master Parts Price List.

OK, I see them named on one sheet but no color chips.
The California Beige looks like it could be the color.

My friend Perry MR59 sent me a photo of the paint chips of the these 3 stacked on the sheet.

traverse green #277 5737
ruby maroon #278 5738-A
California beige #280 " west coast " 5873

which #280 matches the picture first posted of the colour .

unfortunately the cropped picture does not show the formulas printed to the left of the sheet. Too bad.

This kind of info is what should be stored on a site, even if here and access available to all.

Seeing as how the poster of the original question is living in B C Canada, now the question becomes is the car a USA built car with paint code #280 "California beige ", or is it a Canadian built car with some kind of,.... " CANADA 'west coast' BEIGE " ??

Hi, in Canada the 40 came in color 'Prairie Tan'. I came across the photo trying to find 40 Chev Specials in a beige or tan color. I don't no where the car in the photo is from but I'm wondering if that is the color I'm looking for.
