My 55's battery was dieing after a week of storage, so I installed a battery disconnect which solved the problem. The car has a custom autosound which now loses its memory when I disconnect the battery. Is there a way to save the memory while the battery Is disconnected? I like the disconnect for safety too.

1 week sounds like a dead short in a hot wire..maybe a battery minder would be the correction for the memory loss.
Old cars have always owned me.

The radio is probably draining the battery even when off. Yes, a trickle charger would be necessary.

Pull the fuse for the radio. Leave the battery connected. Then see if you're still having problems a few days later. At least that will help narrow it down.

--Bill B Tracing and repairing the short is the way to go. 1 week from a functioning to a dead battery is telling you something ain't working, as it should.

I agree there is probably a short somewhere in the harness. I plan to replace it when my health improves more. In the meantime I'll experiment with fuse etc. Thanks, Sid

Hi Bill, I'd still like to sell it, but as I get better it sure is tempting to give it some TLC. I can do a few things now, but nothing heavy. I doubt I could even take the radio fuse out now, but maybe in a few weeks.

Your autosound is draining your battery...Didn't mention how old the battery is...I'd leave a battery tender on just south of the cut off...You leave this car outside...? Think someone might steal it..?

Thanks for the input. Battery was in the car when I bought it 16 months ago. I too think the radio is the problem. Will find out soon. Car is in garage with security alarm. Don't want to tempt thieves, and I sure don't want to deal with insurance company over a loss. We were on a vcca trip a few years ago and came home to water damage in 3 rooms. I learned some new words dealing with the claim.

The radio is always drawing some power to save preset stations and run the clock...Not much, but...

There's no way that Custom Auto Sound stereo is killing the battery in only 7 days. I've run these for years never have any drain issues leaving my cars for weeks at a time.
The stock clock will draw more than the Custom auto sound radio.
As a matter of fact,an orig clock if acting up or bad will drain a battery quickly in a 12v neg ground car.I agree with most others,there's a short some where. Jim

If the sound system is in good working order you should be able to let it sit all winter without draining the battery so you might have another problem,first disconnect the stereo to eliminate it and then go to the charging system and everything else that is not switched and hooked directly to the battery and definately check the battery.
