We need what I believe is called a universal joint ball retainer with mounts on the bottom to fasten to the cross member and a top speedometer drive. We have a spare but the speedo drive is on the bottom. I'm not sure if this would work or if there is room for a reverser between it and the brake master cylinder if anyone has dealt with this. Any chance anyone has this rear portion of the tranny that will work in my 1936 Chevy 1/2 ton with a 3 speed synchronized transmission that I can purchase? The casting number on our broken one GM 590792. Thank You. My email is mtelow@yahoo.com and my number is 917-678-0277

The change of the speedo. gear to the top was done for the reason you mentioned. The rear extension from a 1936 Master car or 3 speed truck will work.

Thanks Chev Nut. The best thing that could happen would be to find a complete transmission that's ready to use and keep mine for spare parts. Hopefully someone has one that they would consider parting with. I would be happy to pay a finders fee if someone could put me in touch with somebody that has one.
