I posted this in "Parts Wanted," but thought it may get more attention here. I broke a valve and in turn it went through the piston. Only 200 miles on fresh overhaul. Need a standard Cast Iron Piston, 3 ring. Good used would be fine. Thanks for any help, ron@eyres.com (316) 640-3127

Ron, You sure you need a STD. It the engine was recently rebuilt it was probably bored to oversize. Check with your builder. I have some 1940 domed pistons . May even have a set. You can have whatever you need. Just shipping. Charlie

Ron was the engine builder in this case. Maybe needs to find another "head" shop however.

Guess I'm missing something here.
The O.P. asked for a standard piston, but I did not see where the O.P. stated the piston needed to be a 216 piston.
What did I miss?

I would be very concerned about WHY it broke, not just getting it fixed. I have spent 35 years working on racing engines of one sort or another, and have never seen a valve just break. Even with the strongest of valve springs and cams with lifts so high and durations so long, I have always found there was a reason for the valve to break. Either drivers error, mechanics error, or the failure of a related part, something always caused it.

Last stuck valve I was involved with turned out to be a small sliver of metal that jammed the valve in the guide from the top. None of us knew where the sliver came from. First time any of us involved, mechanic, machinist and helpers had ever seen that!

Considering it's a 216, I can only imagine over revving and babbitt bearing problems...Probably leaves "driver error" out...
