On my 36 std coupe the choke has never worked real good ! Doing some work on it for some spring touring . I looked at the choke disc in the top of the carb . It,s in two pieces and when the choke is pulled , one half hinges down . So only 1\2 is closed ! I have some other W1 carter carbs and the disc is one piece . Is it in upside down and can be turned over ? Why is it 2 pieces ! I know the answer if I could just think of it ! Thanks

The '32 - '37 W-1 carburetors have the hinged choke plate(s). There should be a spring to keep the plates relatively flat until the throttle is opened past idle. Apparently you are missing the spring and possibly some other small parts. With a photo of the top of the carburetor a few of use can tell what is missing.

The hinged two piece choke valve was used to prevent over choking. The incoming air flow wuold push open the hinged half to reduce over choking. This feature was built into the linkage when they went to the one piece valve.
