The gas tank for my '28 AB Canopy Express is under the seat. After going out for a drive, gas seeps out around the gas cap and wets the top of the tank. Thus, the whole truck (including me) smells like gas after a while.
I can put a gasket on the gas cap and prevent the leaking, but I suspect the air gap in the cap is the air vent for the tank.
How do other folks deal with this problem?
Thanks, Dean

It depends on which of the two gas caps that you have. Both are vented if original. Not sure on the repops. I use the gasket available from Model T parts sellers as one of the Chevy truck caps is the same as Model T. If you don't have a gasket or the tank and cap don't fit tightly there will be a leak. May have a teensy leak if the tank is full through the cap vent. Also I only put ~8-9 gallons in the tank.
Check your cap for a vent and use a gasket if the cap does not seal well. That should minimize your problem.

Thanks, Chipper.
My cap looks like a brass cap from a 55 gallon drum. No gasket and no vent. I see the Filling Station sells a repro (part FS-244) and the pic shows the vent.
Now I know what they look like. ;-)
Cheers, Dean

Glad I could help. Have a few trucks including a '28 Canopy Express.
I have not used the Filling Station cap but the photo looks right. They don't often sell stuff that is not up to snuff (unless that is all that is available and better than nothing).

Smelling like gasoline ain`t all bad, I`ve smelled worse. I guess I am one of those people that just love the smell of gasoline. Fifty years ago I pumped gas at a local Shell station and I would come home and hang my overalls in the hallway and my Mom never did figure out where that smell came from.

Gas doesn't smell good to me any more. I agree with n2chev, it USED to smell good. I guess with the addition of the corn juice and whatever other additives nowadays, they have ruined that good old gas smell.
