I'm getting ready to install a turn signal harness made by YnZ into my 38. The wiring harness and speedometer cable grommet in the floorboard and on the driver's side is there but there's no room to stuff the turn signal harness through the grommet. What is everyone doing about this? Just removing the grommet? What about the air whistling through the hole?
Thanks for any advice!
Jim

Hello Jim,

I'm actually getting ready to do the same with my '37 MD 4dr. I have just received my JnZ directional harness from CoF's. I am making the connections to the directional switch and mounting it to the column first. I haven't looked at the grommet yet. Thanks for the timely heads up !

There are plenty of holes you can route the wires through. The main grommet is tight with just the main harness. If you don't like an existing hole just drill one where you want it & put a grommet from the hardware store in it. I've run a number of wires through the firewall of my '38 (fog lights, radio, high beam indicator) without issue.

Hmmm...never thought of that! That may be a solution!
Thanks!

I wrapped the wires in cloth tape and ran them through the main grommet with the rest of the harness. It's the one on the right.

Then I ran it up and terminated in bullet connectors so if I wanted to run with arm signals I can take the thing off the steering wheel.

Brian,
Nice job, I may mimic you . Did you use cloth tape all the way up to the turn signal device on the column?

Jim,

Just up to the bullet connectors, which hang just behind the instrument panel. I used cloth loom on the pig tail from the turn signal end as it was easy to slip it on with just the short wires.

Now I feel bad I didn't put more effort into removing the label stuck to the grommet.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I noticed that the panels in this picture look nice, did you paint them? Mine are all original and all scratched up from 75 years of use.

p.s. I got new grommets made by Metro Moulding, haven't put them in yet.

I got new kick panels in my upholstery kit from LeBaron Bonney. They are exactly like the original ones. You should be able to purchase them separately from the kit. Give them a call or try Chev's of the 40's

I also got mine from Hampton. It came with my discount interior kit. I think they still sell them but you'd have to check.
