According to my book 34-551 is a coach i.e. 2 door sedan. Body number is likely the 378th made. Not sure what the two numbers on the right mean.
Hopefully someone will confirm or correct. I don't have the trim numbers chart.
Best Regards, Pat

Hi Pat, thanks for your reply. In terms of the right "body style" I agree on the 2-door 5-Passenger Coach meanwhile. Don't know why the dutch authorities took in the Town Sedan into the papers. The plate on the RH sill didn't reveal anything spectacular, other than a 378 marked on it. The woodbeam furthermore front has the carving 378 11 on it.
I'd really like to reveal whether the two-tone beige-brown color combination goes along with paint code 513.
Thanks for any hints on this.

Here, the Town Sedan is a "Coach" with a built-in trunk. It is possible that different jurisdictions have different nomenclatures.

Hi Guys,
So some how we are mixing up two body styles. The car which is pictured is a coach and the body style which I have is a Town Sedan. I would think someone just looked up something at the DMV and miss marked your title some how. I will look at my information when I get home from work.

I'll have to push this one upwards again ... @Bruce Did you get round to check by chance? I also like to know, whether it has the original paint combination on it. From what it looks on the oldcarmanuals it could be colossus cream & hollywood tan. But this is for a 1935 model. Thanks for your help guys.

The Parts Book calls the 1934 DA Passenger, Master. The brochure calls it Master DeLuxe Coach. There is a DC for 1934. A Standard Coach. Both cars look similar. Most noticeable difference is the chrome attached to the hood along the air vents. (Master Deluxe) none on the (Standard). Bumper guards on the bumper vs none on the Standard. This is for U.S. Cars. The guards could be added to the Standard as an after market item. There are several styles of these. There is some little difference in interior design. The Town Sedan has the bussel type trunk. It is accessed from the outside of the car. The interior of the Town Sedan is a step up from the Standard Coach. TCP Global has an interesting web site you may want to look at at www.tcpglobal.com

The first year to have "Deluxe" added to the Master name was 1935. Buunper guards were an accessory for both the Master and Standad. The Standard was a smaller more skimpy looking car with smaller hub caps and longer spoke wire wheels The 1935 Master Deluxe was the first Chevrolet to have front and rear bumper guards as regular equipment.

Folks, I was talking to a customer, who is into Chevy's the last 20 years or so and he gave me the hint, that mine could have been brought over to Europe as a Kit and assembled here at the Chevy plant in Antwerp. For those of you who are interested ...

Maybe someone can help: ![[Linked Image from otsw.de]](http://www.otsw.de/34chevy/34vinplate.jpg) zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz The firewall aluminum tag does not say whether its USA built , or Canada built, or whether it was ASSEMBLED in Europe on a GM assembly line. That would mean it was shipped as a C K D = COMPLETE KNOCK DOWN, most likely from USA . The 34---551 is a FISHER body designation for a 2 door master coach. I have 1934 Chevrolet Chevrolet motor co. aluminum firewall tag that is factory riveted on. My tag is machine stamped in numbers, yours is hand stamped. STYLE No 34-551 BODY No AG 2059 TRIM No 38 PAINT No 164 the AG in the body number stands for Atlanta Georgia assembly plant, according to ***chey nut*** , about 2 years ago. This was on the firewall of my 1935 Chevrolet standard SERIES ROADSTER, which some bozo in Kentucky attached from a scrap car just so he could supply me with an ownership title. I had no idea what was correct on a roadster and what wasn't. Let me tell you this, I am a whole lot smarter about this roadster now. Assuming yours doesn't have this AG or any other designation on the aluminum plate . It might be most likely assembled in Europe. As soon as the car rolled off the transporter and into my driveway and I looked at the frame, I knew I had a 35 car instead of a 34. mike lynch whitby Ontario Canada................

Paint # 51 is black. That is a US assembled car number. The plate is a typical US plate. My thoughts are the car was shipped to Europe in the later years and spent most of its life in then US.

I don't think the 3 belongs to the paint number. The 3 may be the code number for the wheel color. A black car had the option of black, red, or cream wheels.

Until real paint code information for USA Canada and other countries is uncovered.
We are all just guessing until we can accumulate original unrestored *firewall build plate data codes* and create a file and sort out the info.
my friend gary has the complete set of 1934 issues of CHEVROLET SERVICE NEWS Canada . In there are the paint codes for 1934 Chevrolets > Unfortunately they are so dried out and fragile that they cannot be opened to read the info with him damaging them.
I wonder if a similar thing was printed in USA Chevrolet service news. ??????????

The paint code for US 1934 Chevrolets painted black is #51....I have the US paint codes from the 1920's and up. With taht being said and about 1/2 of the 1934 cars were black it makes sense to me.

There is Oxblood Red paint combination #168. All 1934 numbers began with "1" Paint numbers contained only three numbers for many years. In 1934 all cars came with black enameled fenders with body color matching in lacquered as optional. While is is not mentioned I believe this RED would be for open cars only. Also I believe 1934 was the last year for black fenders in the US. The wheels are not inclded in the paint nummber. The paint number combination was for Fisher Body use and the wheels were installed at the Chevrolet assembly plant. I was in error on an earlier post with the #51.There is a 151 number which as a blue.

My info here shows 513 as a Canadian colour for a 1935 Chev… 1934 had a 4 digit code 14** for Standard or 24** for a Master. I guess that rules out it being a Canadian car...

What he, the person from Germany needs to do about paint colour is to look for chips or areas on the car where he can find the original colour exposed. That would give others a chance to determine what his original car colour would have been. Canada shipped complete cars assembled here to other countries in the world. Also , so did most likely the USA , where his car might have originated from. I just wish somebody would be able to find the correct factory info for paint colours for USA and Canada so it could be archived on this site for all to use. We drive ourselves nuts trying to help these guys get the right info about the car and its origins. Rarely do we see a post thanking anybody for any help offered to them . I know chev nut has supplied answers to more than a few of my questions over the past couple of years, and I have thanked him on these pages. mike lynch

Hi Mike,
Like Gene I have paint information for 31 to 35, and fairly complete. And I know of at least a handful of other people that have the same information on paint for these years. What I have is for the US cars and does not relate to the Canadian cars paint codes. So like Gene, I can tell you just about what color any one of the cars (Fisher Bodies) should have been, including wheel color and optional wheel color and strip color.
So my question to you, what do you mean when your saying you wish that someone could find correct factory paint information? Is DuPont color documents not correct? That is what any body shop goes by today to repair your cars.
And thank you for also always being willing to thank the guys on this site, we try really hard to answer the questions to the best of our knowledge.

Bruce, yes you have been very helpful also to me on questions re roadsters 34-35. What would be real nice is if somewhere on this site would post that 1931--1935 paint info for USA built cars be published so that others like myself have access to it . People could stop asking what is paint # XXX on here and not getting answers. If I find a 1929---1936 Canadian paint codes info material , I will share it. I know garry Greenland has the 1934 paint codes for Canada here in 1934 chev service news. Problem is they are so fragile he is afraid to touch them for worry of making them go POOOOOF. Or somebody produce a reference book that people can purchase directly. That way it covers at least **your** initial cost of purchasing the information. I do not mind paying for it and anybody restoring their early chev should not mind either.?????? So can somebody preceed down the road to all VCCA CHAT having access to valued info ???? mike lynch...........

A great idea Mike…
One of the issues is that most members in the club are just like you… familiar with one or two different years of cars, not the entire range of colours for every decade and every country. Maybe we could start a "Sticky" thread that a variety of members could add the info they possess to, and some of the moderators could sort it into chronological order.
Another thing that I am a little unsure of what you are asking about is what amount of info do you need? The paint code does nothing but give you a name for the colour. If you have a catalogue of that years paints, it will tell you what colours to mix together to arrive at that colour. The problem is that paint companies would go out of business, or change their formulas. Often a book would be published to update with new paints. When that book is out of date, you would have to use a third book to update the updated book!! After 80+ years you can see where this game of "telephone" is going as far as getting an accurate colour. Scanning an actual paint chip would be the best solution, but those are relatively hard to find in good shape.
I have the Canadian paint codes for 1934 to 1972, including the actual chips for most colours for 1949 and from '59 to '72. One of the projects that the Southern Ontario Region has taken on is to collect as much of this info as we can to add to our library in order to help others out. A lot of members have been contacting with Canadian paint code questions. There is still a TON of info that I have no clue about… If anyone else out there has Canadian info, please PM me.
We may be way off of the original topic now, and I apologize for that. I hope the original poster's question was answered!

My point here is most all of the TA's have the paint info and share it freely. So there are benefits to being a member of the VCCA.
