I have recently been given what I'm told is a 1948 Chevy panel delivery truck. A friend owed me money and the truck is pretty cool. I however can't find pictures or info on it. There is a few differences in mine than everything else I've seen. It has two factory roll down windows in the sides high up and before the fender wells. I say factory because the metal is actually rolled and it all looks original. It also has 8 lug wheels and I'm told it is a 3/4 ton. It's a four on the floor with a six cylinder. I couldn't believe it he started it up and we drove it around. it has a tag riveted to the dash left of the steering wheel with the number 972.
Can anyone HELP or lead me somewhere to get some good info on this machine? my email is ahall@pro100.com

Welcome to Chatter
Most of us will need a little more information to identify your panel truck. There should be a couple of small plates rivetted to the engine side of the firewall, post the numbers stamped on these will be a big help.

The body style that you describe with roll up canvas sides was called a Canopy Express by Chevrolet. Some refer to it as a Huckster.

He mentioned "roll down windows" which I pictured as actual glass windows. Like windows cut into the sides of the body.???

I can't find any 3600 or 3800 style with any roll up side windows...Found one but it was GMC...

Anything is possible. It is more common to find sedan deliveries that had side windows installed.
The Canopy Express and Panel truck came in both
1/2 ton 3100 series and 1 ton 3800 series. The mention of 8 lug wheels identifies it as a one ton.
I find no options such as windows for a panel so it probaby was done after assembly.
