I purchessed a n.o.s. left side outside mirror to use on the 48 fleetline.The box has the correct group number but incorrect part number,the GM box also says it can be used on cars up to 49 .Any info on this,chef-

All OS mirrors (wxcept truck) would be in the same group.The 1948 and 1949 mirrors are very different.The 1948 and prior mirror has the mirror bracket mounted in the cener of the front (or back?) of the mirror head with kind of a tear drop point sticking out to the front of the car.The mirror clamps onto the door edge.
The King Bee mirror #4101972A sold by Chevs of the 40's come close to looking like the correct original. The bracket appears to be a little more curved.The convertible used the same mirror except that is was held on directly with screws.
what is the incorrect mumber - and is it genuine Chevrolet or a fake?

The box is genuine and I got to guess the mirror also.The instulation proceedure is on the back of the box and the drawing and the mirror I have are the same in apearence....The mirror is the bolt on type so I guess it would be for the convert.I will remmeber to get the part#at home and post it(I'm at work,busy,busy year for me)chef-

The numbers on the box are group #10.185 and part #982429...???chef-

My 1946-1978 numerical accessory parts list does not list your part number.
982188 is listed as: 47-48 mirror-outside rear-view-pass

My 1948 Olds part book shows 982449 as for 1939-48 Oldsmobile.
