Front wheels came off easy-peasy but.......the rears are still on the car,I'm estimating 30 years.. pb.. hammer -screw drivers..blue words..no Baptist Minister for help..Anyone have a solution?
You will need a wheel puller. The best and easiest one, if you can buy or borrow one, is the type which screws onto the hub cap threads, and has a bolt in the other end which, when screwed in, pushes on the end of he axle and pulls the wheel off the axle taper. These are easily made if you have acess to a lathe. The thread on the hub is 2 3/8 inches diameter by 16 threads per inch. Several other makes of cars other than Chev, for example at least some 20s Chrysler products, also used the same pullers.
If the hub threads are damaged so the puller will not screw on, with disk wheels you still have the option of making a simple wheel puller which screws onto two opposite wheel hub bolts. The thread on these is 7/16 SAE, but the modern equivalent, 7/16 UNF will fit. These are simple with no really critical dimensions. If you are interested in making one, PM me with your e-mail address and I will send you photos of both types with a short description of each - sorry, no proper engineering drawings, but none really needed.
