When I was rebuilding the seats in my 37 1/2 ton the two feet on the backrest were up a few inches and would not reach the adjustment brackets attached to the cab,if the backrest was on the adjustment brackets the upper hooks were not touching the place they were supposed to be and it would fall forward. Does anyone know if the backrest was changed in 38 to clear the fuel tank inlet and I could possibly have one,I had to make extensions so the feet would sit in the adjustment brackets.

In 1936 only the bottom lower part of the back rest moved as an adjustment. The top part of the back rest did not adjust. The bottom of the seat did not adjust. I do not know about 1938.

Its the same way on my 37 but I had to extend the parts down a little to hit the adjustment brackets,I was wondering if there was a change in the 38 seats when the filler neck was put to the outside.

The master parts catalogs indicate different parts numbers for a fair number of the seat parts 36/37 vs 38.

I am thinking it got a set of junkyard 38 seats that were better then the original and a set of junkyard artillery wheels that had better tires,I have seen the artilery wheels on 38 to 42 3/4 tons but never on 1/2 tons.

Jeff -
I just had the seats reupholstered for my 37. The bottom seats were built up a little more than they originally were and the same thing happened to my seat back. The "tongues" on right and the left side of the seat back slipped up into the slots on the inside back of the cab just fine, but the brackets were not long enough to fit, or sit, in the saw tooth adjustment bracket at the bottom of the verticals on the inside back of the cab because we put too much "stuffing" in the seat bottoms to make them softer. That additional material ended up holding the back up (resting on the seat bottoms) so they would not reach the saw tooth adjustment bracket. I finally raised the saw tooth brackets up and got the adjustment issue to work. It's good now and my seats are much more comfortable.

With all material off the seat frames and the backrest sitting on the brackets the top tongues would not be up in the slots,I am glad I found out about it before reupholstering the seats and I think I needed to put 2 or 3 inch extensions on the backrest for it to work like it should.
