I am doing farther research but at this time I don't think a wagon has a spare tire cover.

i have a restored 39 woodie that had its original right front welled fender and spare tire cover as well as two piece right side hood when i bought the well preserved 39 back about 1990. . i restored it about 15 years ago so can't remember details of the cover. its too cold to go out to the storage garages to check it out and take pictures. will do so once it warms up. mike

There is only one tire cover listed in the 1940 parts book for 1937-1939 cars.. This is the open center type full circle and it was available for trunkless models and allthough it dosen't mention wagons there is no doubt it was used on wagons.
There are several small parts listed as fitting the 1939 wagon tire cover also.

I am also looking for a spare tire cover but for a 1948 station wagon instead. The 1929 -1954 Parts book lists a cover fitting 1940-1948 station wagons under Group Number 7.751 Part Number 604501. I could be wrong but doesn't the 39 have 600-16 tires and if so, should I be looking as far back as 1937 for a cover for the 1948 wagon. I realize the brackets may need some modification but shouldn't the 600-16 wheel and tire fit in the two piece sheet metal shell? Hope this question makes sense.

604501 is the carrier(big bracket) that holds the wheel and tire
In 1940 the complete cover was 603724, fit all 1937-1939 cars that had an exposed spare tire, trunkless sedans, rumble seat and convertible coupes and wagons. It is not mentioned as being for a 1940 wagon.
In 1941 book the part was "deunitized" which means it was no longer sold as a complete unit but rather is seprerate parts. At that point the cover parts are listed for 1940 -1942 wagons.
Then in the 1948 book the main cover is listed for 1937-1939 cars and 1940-1942 wagons. This indicates the cover was changed in 1940 but still could be used on a 1937-1939.

To make a confusing long story short the cover for a 1937-1939 car would be correct. All 1937-1948 cars had 6.00X16 tires and the wagons used a 6 ply tire because it could be inflated to a higher pressure thus increasing its load capacity. (optional 15" not available for 1948 wagons).
A 1946-1948 cover would probably work but not look 100% the same and would require all 1946-1948 parts.

If you find a rear view picture of a 1937-1938 coupe with a spare tire cover you will see what it looks like. If you can't find a decent picture send me your email address and I will send you one.

I have a 39 woody and the cover needs to be cut to fit. A full cover won't fit in the well. 39 woodies and sedan delivery used a sidemount and hindged hood side panel on the passenger side. Jim C

Thanks for the reply. I had already sent the correct info.
And, yes, the cover is shorter so as to fit into the well. As a note, the sedan delivery did not have a side mount. The spare was under the floor.
