If anyone goes to the ebay auction site for the 48 woodie, I'd be curious to know what they think is 'hanging down' in one of the profile (side view) pix of the woodie. Sort of looks like the rear springs aren't 'hooked-up.' ???

Bill, that looks like overload springs mounted underneath the regular leaf springs.

The wagon appears to be a 1948 with a 1947 hood-Perhaps a used hood was installed at one time. The 1948 interior improvement was a "new, larger, better looking dome light" which this car seems to have. From the looks of things under the hood the car could leave a lot to be desired - considering the price. Can't quite read the top body style number but it does look like there is a 7 in it.

Cowl Tag says: 47-1062
Has a 47 hood front Badge, and also a 47 acc. hood ornament.
Could this really be a 47 ?
Or another 47 Add the "T" and say its a 48 ???

Thanks Ray!
So, did the wagons come with 'overload springs?'
If not, were they an option from the 'factory?'
Or were they an 'aftermarket' type add on??

Hi Garry,
Somebody who knows more about ebay may be able to help. I do know you can 'revise' the description; but I don't know exactly how to go about it. There's probably some 'prompts' you can follow. Altho I do also know that after a bid has been placed, there are some parts (don't know which ones) of the auction that ebay will NOT let you change.
I wish I could be more help.......
Bill.

I emailed the guy about the year. He says it is listed as a 1948 on the title. I get the impression that he doesn't really know that much about the car.

Paint number on the wagon is 355.The color was Maple Brown-that color was not offered in 1948. Dean, I can't read the 47-1062 on my screen...so the car must be a 1947 + T Bar.Car may also be a mixture of pieces It also has a later engine-note oil cap on valve cover, closed off breather top and a dip stick tube.Probably will find 14 MM spark plugs under the incorrect plug wire boots.

Cool looking vehicle - I vote '47 with the '48 "T" bar added. Good looking any way you slice it, but these prices...gesch. At Barrett Jackson it's not uncommon to see 6 figures on some of these cars.

I also emailed the woodie guy about the year of the car, among other questions such as what's hanging down by the rear springs.
Re the year situation. He said he's listing it for a friend (so he doesn't really know that much about it) but he will pass on the info about "47-1062" to the owner. He further stated the title is free and clear and it does indicate on the title that the car is a 1948.
Gee, how many times have 'we' heard that...... "I'm listing it for a friend." Sorta goes hand-in-hand with "buyer beward."
Hmmmmm.....
Bill.

I'll bet that he bought to resell and make a "few" bucks on it.

No argument here.
I really have a hard time "buying" that line about selling it for a friend...... it seems way "over-used."
I wonder how many of those are found false when you see the title????

Yea Gene, I noticed the oil cap on the valve cover also. I have a 51 block with that same blocked off oil pipe too. I wouldnt doubt the 14mm plugs either. incorrect plug wires are way too obvious. Shes a 47 alright, says right on the cowl tag. How could the title be a 48, when the cowl tag clearly states its a 47???

Sometimes for strange reasons cars did get titled as the next year model due to being first licensend in 1948 etc....this did happen in some Eastern states.

GENE, WHEN I BOUGHT MY CAR IT WAS THOUGHT TO BE A 48 ALSO. IT HAD A "T" ON THE GRILL LIKE A 48 ALSO. NOT TILL MONTHS LATER WHEN I STARTED READING UP THE CAR, DID I DISCOVER IT REALLY WAS A 47. MY GRILL "T" DIDNT HAVE A HOLE IN IT WHERE THAT PROPELLER NUT SCREWED INTO IT. IT WAS ALL ONE PIECE THE NUT WAS JUST MOLDED INTO IT TO LOOK LIKE THE PROPELLER NUT. I HAVE NOTICED THE "REAL" 48S I HAVE SEEN ALL HAVE THE "T" AND THE NUT AS 2 SEPERATE PIECES. WERE THESE FAKE "T" PIECES AFTERMARKET STUFF???

Yes, those T's were aftermarket items. I bought one many years ago for my '48 and sent it back. Never got my money back. Why any '47s were titled originally as '48's is a mystery to me since in '47 there was a waiting line for new cars - no unsold leftovers. Dealers loaded accessories on the cars, take it or leave it..was the attitude....If this so called '48 is a '47 it might still have the old type ignition switch - just a flat round switch with out the little arm as later...'48 has an unlock position to the right.
