I know down here on the South Coast of MA not many have lost power even with all the high winds. The power company has sent back some of the trucks that came from outside of NE to help. Luckily the utility company just spent millions these last 5 years updating most of the lines around my area. I have a radio controlled line shut off switch on the pole in front of my garage that the utility company worker told me they control from Boston. In front of my garage 3 lines all meet and all three would have to go down for me to loose power. If one goes down the utility just throws the leg on the switch that feeds that grounded section and the rest stayed powered up. TV/Internet Cable has also held up.

The USPS has been a day or two behind with one day of no delivery. Haven't seen any UPS or FedEx trucks going by but those guys usually are working. We have a UPS terminal right here in Dartmouth and I usually see trucks go by but I really haven't been looking for them. Damn wind is still blowing hard so wind chill is about -12d right now and the sun's out!

With all the depth of snow up north I hate to even mention it but we got a covering of ice and sleet last night. Not much at all. But still a nuisance, too.

Hope you all up there dig out soon. Also, hole there is no damage to your old cars or anything else owing to roof cave-ins.

In North Georgia, we received our covering of ice last night, as well.

Temp is 24* now, but going down to near zero tonight (Tuesday) and Wednesday night.

Needless to say, everything has closed down in our area.

For those of you who are familiar with "Brine" for the roads, north Georgia has decided to get on the bandwagon and use brine, as well.

News teams have been following the "brine truck" filming the "spreading of the brine" ... a new step in our world here.

Now folks are complaining on TV, regarding the "dangerous" white film left on the streets and cars .... the brine residue.

Police officers were also complaining, regarding the brine residue on their patrol cars, as well.

Great entertainment.

I am located close to the cape and Buzzards' Bay and we are getting another 4-6" right now while the rest of NE pretty much gets nothing. It's a coastal storm and those are the ones where only the south shore, cape, and the islands get hit. I'm sure Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard are getting a bunch. At least with the price of heating oil people can at least afford to turn the heat up more this year to help prevent pipes from freezing.

On the down side lots of roofs are collapsing. Just lost a Lowe's roof yesterday over in Tauton MA.

Yes, Steve, it would be nice to get help with these cars.

Distance from here to there is 163 miles, but the quotes I'm getting are WAY above what I'm willing to pay.

I had always used a buck a mile, per car, as a guide for transporting. Quoted prices are meeting and exceeding 2 bucks a mile, per car.

Anyone want to buy two nice '51 Chevys ?

On a serious note, I wish I lived closer to Bob, it would be a fun day to drive one of those old Chevys 163 miles for him, even over the mountains! (After the ice is gone and the brine, don't want that stuff on the '51 Chevys!)

The '51 shown in the avatar came from your home state, in 2000. Cedar Rapids.

Out of the 163 total miles, the portion that goes through the mountains is 40 miles or so. The rest of the ride is pretty level.

That is interesting that your 51 came from Cedar Rapids, Ia. 40 miles of mountain driving shouldn't be a problem. Back in 1963 my wife and I drove a 53 Chevy over the Bear Tooth Pass in Montana into the N.E. gate of Yellowstone Park with no problem.

I think the '51 could easily make it through the mountain area, grades are not severe by any means. Highest point is 3,600 feet. Car is stick, so it has the 4:11 rear, but I'm not up to driving it 175 miles.

FYI, I bought the car from the second owner in Cedar Rapids in 2000.

Original owner bought car new in his home town of Newhall, Iowa. Car stayed close to home, all its life in Iowa, from 1951 to 2000.

Selling new car dealer in 1951 was Grovert Chevrolet, they are still in operation today, third generation or so.

I sent the present Grovert owner some info and pics on my '51, telling them it was still on the road and still looking "showroom fresh", but they were not interested.

Perhaps if the original owner was still around, the spark in his eye would have been seen, but not with third generation or so.

Very interesting, it is neat that you have such a good history of the car. I can't believe the dealership wasn't interested!

Woke up this morning to another 5" of snow on the ground! What the hell, enough already. I live close to Cape Cod and it turns out last night's storm was a coastal storm dumping more on us along the coast than anywhere else. Want to start the body filler work on my 31' but want the temps to moderate some. Right now I run the heat while I'm working then shut if off when I'm done. That's not good for a good bond of the filler and paint. Come on spring!

Ok, enough is enough. We were forecast to get 3-5" overnight. Instead we got 12-14" here along the coast. The snow on the ground is again up to the top of my above ground pool! Even though we finally had some rain two days ago, it started as snow and ended as snow so we didn't really lose much of what we had. Now we just added another damn foot. We're probably going to have snow around here well into April now.

It's going to be a bad year for our old cars and motorcycles around here. Our roads are really bad and will have major potholes well into early summer.

Well, the good news is - when working with Bondo and it's cold out, you get a lot of extra time to work it before it sets up.......
