finaly hope to get the top material built and installed on my roadster this winter.I made a temp patern out of some canvas, and stapled it in place temp, to check the fit of the pattern, and it seems to fit nicely (pattern is a tracing of an original top)The part I am having trouble with is the const of the underside of the front visor portion of the top. Is there supposed to be a steel rod or something acting kind of like a curtain rod that holds up the windshield flap? looks like the top bows are wrapped with some kind of cloth material also.anyone have some info on the front detail of the top const?(1930 roadster) Thanks J Falk

Hi
I have some similar problems. I have a 1930 SR. When I got it the hood frame was rotten and needed parts replaced. As you say the visor part is a bit strange. The top does not clamp tightly to the top of the windshield - there is a gap and I have a sort of flap that is about 1.5 inches. The flap covers th gap, but, of course, let's water blow in when moving.
What I have done is found some metal clips so I can clip the flap to the top of the windshield and this works ok, but I am sure it is not correct, so I am interested in any other solutions.

Yes that is also what I was told by Ralph McEowen. Not much to it. John I will send you a couple of pictures of my front flap. I hope that helps.

Thanks for all the info. This project has dragged on for much to long. hopefully get a top on it for this summers driving. I looked at one top that had a sheet metal shelf installed and covered with fabric, but it did not seem quite right. again thanks j falk

My '31 Phaeton has a fabric covered flap from the top header over the top of the windshield. It presents a problem mounting the vacuum wiper motor. A manual wiper should not be as much of a problem with interference as the larger vacuum motor.
