Any suggestions on removal? Plug is chewed up. Seems to have about a 1/2 square plug on a 1.25-1.5 inch circular base.

Drain the differential, remove the cover, clean it up, use heat on the plug to remove it. Clean out the bottom of the differential, replace cover with the new plug, fill up to the fill hole, replace the new plug. If you have any gas tank liner, did each of the cover bolts in the lining material and install. Use a new gasket to replace the cover. JOB DONE!

Thanks. I will do that later.
In the meantime I was able to finally loosen it.
Used a hack saw blade around the circular flange on the nut to loosen rust and gasket.
Then a pipe wrench on the flange and a hit with a hammer did it.
