Can anyone help me locate a set of brake linings to suit a 1930 Chevy passenger. At the very least a set for the front only will suffice as the rear ones are not bad and the emergency ones are good. Unfortunately the suppliers I have found so far will only do a re-lining service with my shoes. I am in New Zealand and it means fairly heavy shipping weight in both directions added to the cost. Any help or advice appreciated. thanks Colin

An industrial brake supplier should carry the right kind of material, which is a soft/woven lining. The hard linings used on modern (ie, hydraulic brakes) cars won't work. I had my '30 Coupe brakes done at a local industrial brake shop here in the States. Should be one somewhere in New Zealand. Maybe these guys: http://waikatobonding.co.nz/Or hopefully some of the other Kiwis on the site here can offer some advice. Happy Motoring, Dan

Don't know about New Zealand , but it may be wise to ask if the Brake Linings are made with " Asbestos " , as it is " illegal " to use Asbestos Brake Linings / Material in Australia.
Good Luck with your search anyhow.

Colin, I have found the correct material by searching for companies which repair industrial clutches and brakes used in cranes, bulldozers, etc.
I would bet that you can find such a company in New Zealand who could supply the correct woven friction material and probably even drill and install it on your brake shoes.
Hope it works out for you.
All the Best, Chip
