Hi, I removed my car's water pump today. There is no sign of the round baffle plate behind the pump. Can someone elaborate on what I need to do? I plan to replace this pump with the modernized version with sealed bearings, by the way.
By the way: I had a blast today: removed the gas tank to check and clean it, and it's in great shape. I removed the fuel pump and cleaned it up; it still pumps! I blew through the fuel line also. I scraped a little carbon of the piston tops, and I used a vacuum to remove crap out of the water passages in the block.
I also ordered some parts: gasket set, pushrods, hoses, etc. Progress!

A replacement baffle plate is available from the Filling Station or Billy Possum. It is installed 1" from the machined surface on the block. If the block is corroded you might have to make some repairs so the baffle plate can be staked in place or otherwise secured.

Update: after I got the radiator off today, I could see the round baffle is in fact in place. Good.

Good deal. Be sure to measure the depth of the baffle plate to be 1" from the machined surface. That is critical for an efficient pump rate.
