I'm finally ready to order the top for the 41 however there are a few details that need some input. The car is black and came from the factory with a black top. According to an earlier thread on this forum in January 2010, we determined that the black top was available with red binding to match the interior. That is the color combination that I intend to order. Before I place the order however, I like some input on these details:

1. Red hide-em to match the top binding (and the interior) is not available from the top supplier. Does anyone know if the car came from the factory with red matching hid-em or was it black. The hide-em covers the tacks above the windshield, the rear window and where the top is tacked to the beltline above the deck lid.

2. With regard to the red binding, was it used to finish the raw edge of the top fabric around the rear curtain opening (across the top and vertical sides) or was that part of the top finished with black binding.

3. Lastly, did the rear curtain have one continuous zipper around it or two zippers on the sides only. I'm assuming if it had two zippers, the top edge of the curtain was fastened to the rear bow using the twist type fasteners.

Hope all of this made sense. Thanks in advance.

By the way, the only supplier I have been able to find to make the top with the contrasting binding and also provide all of the necessary inside bow covers is LeBaron Bonney. They will make the top to what ever details I provide.

Mike,

Not much activity regarding your questions. Actually none but who's counting.

The only input I have is what I have already told you about talking to two people who have ordered the LBB tops and found that the back canvas was too short. One said he had to sew in a piece to make it work.

Although that seems to be the best solution it may be an item that needs to be mention when ordering the top. I don't see no reason for LBB to skimp on that in order to have enough material back there. One can always cut a bit off.

I was hoping that of all those restoring 41s the someone would pipe in with some solid information. Oh, well...

Best,
