I have a collection of Chevrolet hood ornaments 1927-1956. I would like to assign the Chevy part number along with the identification to each one. I have a 1929 -1949 Chevrolet master parts catalog the group number for hood ornaments is 1.265 the dates range from 1937 - 1948. From here I found a Chevrolet master parts list 1929 - 1954 The group number in this book is 8.055 the dates range from 1940-1954. What happened to 1929 - 1936? Chevrolet had an accessory & production hood ornament for every year 1927-1954 except 1938. Does any one know why so many are not included in the Master Parts Catalog and where I might find them ?

Because the ornaments were accessories and many accessories were discontinued with in 1 to 3 years after the car was made.
From the 1939 book grooup 1.265
1935 EA ED cap, ornament #378476
1936 FA, FD, Fc #476378
Dosent say if production or accessory.
In the same book radiator CAPS ae in group 1.203 and the actual cap is listed there. six of them ornamental and otherwise.

Well this is a start. There were two different radiator caps for the 35 standard and two different hoof ornaments for the master. I am rusty on this. Is EA & ED 36 FA FD master or standard ?

My understanding is the Spirit of St Louis radiator cap was not an accessory but a sales contest award. Hope that someone else can either verify or refute that?

Gleaned from several Chevrolet Parts Books

1928 Gryphon P/N 353379 $ 3.90
1928 Winged P/N 353871 $ 3.50
1929-30 Viking P/N 348762 $ 4.00
1931 Viking P/N 363210 $ 3.50
1931-32 Eagle P/N 348952 $ 3.60
1933 Ornamental P/N 364504 $ 3.50

Thank you Chipper That is great. They say you can find anything with Google, but this ain't one of them.

Each ornament will have the year, part number and the price.
That will be a nice addition.

Years ago when I had my Chevy parts business, a fellow told me the same thing. Also the top dealerships in an area were given the Spirit of St. Louis with a three foot wing spread. This is hearsay and therefor not admissible. I have no proof. Maybe that is why there is no P/N........

I looked through several older Chevrolet parts books to try and help with your search for rad cap/hood ornament part numbers and made a summary in a Microsoft Word, but can't see how to attach a file in Chevy Chatter or to import it to the site in readable form.

If you (or anyone else interested) send me a private message with your email address I'll gladly share the file.

There are a few cases where it appears that part numbers were changed or parts discontinued over the years, so it might help to validate data.

Maybe you can open the file in Word, copy the text into the PC's clipboard (highlight the text and press ctrl-c), open a new, blank post here in the forum, and then paste (ctrl-v) the text into the post.

Dean - thanks for suggestion - I tried the copy and paste approach, but the alignment looked horrible when I previewed the post. It seemed like a lot of effort to clean it up so I thought is was easier to offer to e-mail a file to anyone interested.

I have a question about 1937 - 1938 Hood ornaments. I was under the impression there were two in 1937 and one in 1938.
This is what I have found in a master parts book.

595073 $1.15 Cap Ornament 1937 GA GB
596652 $3.75 Cap Ornament special 11937 GA GB
595591 $1.95 Cap Ornament 1937 GC GD GE S
597980 $2.00 Co Ornament 1938 HA HB
598015 $2.25 Cap Ornament 1938 all except HA HB

Are there pictures of these any place?

I had the opportunity to contact them, some time back. Found them helpful to my concern.

Curtisw, what do you need on the 1934 Accessory radiator cap? I have an original Master Parts List from April 1934 which lists the Accessory cap as follows:

Radiator Cap with Gasket-Ornamental...1934 DA,DC $3.75 600201

Yes, thank you Jaw33 The price of the cap is nice too, it will make a nice addition to the descriptions that will go with each ornament.

Some of these hood ornaments have part numbers associated with them.
I will post the remainder under the appropriate model year section.

A big THANK YOU to all that have contributed.
Cheers
Curt
