Can anybody out there help identify the headlight bucket and reflectors shown is this photo?

http://www.haist-usa.com/lites.JPG

These were given and represented to me as '28 parts. That they are not.

The bucket is 5-1/4" deep and 8-3/4" inside diameter, is marked "TWILITE HEADLAMP" in a circle on the point and the mount bracket is stamped with a bowtie and the Guide logo.. No part number.

The reflectors are 8-9/16" d and marked "TWILITE HEADLAMP MADE IN USA GUIDE LAMP COMPANY" on the back of the rim.

Any help greatly appreciated. dance

Look like 29-30 to me. I don't see the raised area near the lense and rim that is on the '31 commercial lights.

Since it looks like these have the twin bulbs in the bowl, would that mean it comes from a '29-'30 model without cowl lights? :)

Would that information help?

On the 1929-32 models, if no cowl lights were used, then the parking lights were in the headlights, and two sockets were used in the reflectors. If the car had cowl lights, then only one socket was used in the headlight reflectors. laugh laugh laugh laugh

The single bulb in the headlight reflectors is for factory installed cowl lights. If cowl lights were dealer installed then they may not have replaced the reflectors, pulled the parking light wires, etc. They may have just hooked the cowl lights to headlight switch and let it go. I know it was not supposed to be but most would not do the extra work and expense. laugh

Would having the extra light in the headlamp take away points from a factory cowl light car at a VCCA meet? :)

Thinking that the 'parking light' inside the headlight would make a better turn signal light than the cowl light. laugh

It all depends upon the judge if points are going to be deducted for cowl lights when you have parking lights. Besides, a factory car with cowl lights (like the 1930 Sport Coupe or the 1932 Special Sedan) would not have parkinkg lights in the headlights......only a car that had cowl lights added by the dealer.

Actually, the cowl lights make better turn signals than the parking light in the headlight because they are more visible......especially at night. laugh laugh (I used the smiley face icon here.......I hope that no one objects)

I support the above comments. The key is factory vs. dealer installation. I also feel cowl lights are more effective. The parking lights just are not that visable particularly during the day.

I was thinking that I could run with the 'parking lights' on during the day and still have the cowl lights for turn signals. Agrin

Gator,
That will work. There was a thread on installing turn signals a while back. Macky might remember the title or you can do a search.

Thanks ChevyChip, I noticed in an article I read in SIA on '32's that some (maybe all) groups deduct points for turn signals. :(

Is there a way to have the turn signals without it showing?? or maybe somehow having a 'quick disconect', if that is possible.

Used 'search' and found the strings, thanks. laugh

If you have cowl lights and two tail lights, then you can use those for the turn signals and you can hide the switch under the instrument panel where it cannot be seen. laugh laugh laugh wink

I like temporary lights clamped to the bumper braces that can be quickly installed or removed.

I prefer useing the correct hand and arm signals, like in the old days. However most folks now think you are waveing! and wave back vigorusly! Sometimes they even use all of their fingers too!

The basic answer on the judging situation is if it is not as original then it is subject to a deduction. Now the judge must be knowledgeable enough to recognise that it is not original. That is unless it is required by a state or federal regulation. Unfortunately turn signals do not fall into that situation. So the best is to make it appear as original (including wire, terminal ends, etc.) and hide or remove the non-original parts.
