Doing some research on gaskets that may have been used for the headlight bars. The Chevrolet parts catalog verifies that gasket were used between the H/L bar & the fender. I don't see one yet for between H/L & grill shell bar. Can anybody shed some light on this subject & also what the material that was used? All of today's catalogs show a very defined gasket used on both ends. Thanks, Joe

Joe,
Don't know about '33 & '34. 1931 & '32 had a fabric pad between headlight bar and fender. It looks like a light canvas or muslin type fabric impregnated with tar or asphalt. I use roofing felt to replace it. I think it is more of an anti-squeak than gasket. Similar fabric was used between some wood and metal parts in the body and thicker pads between frame and main sills. The rubber pads sold today are definitely not original.

My '34 Master had a material that looked like thick heavy paper but was of a weather proof material and quite hard. Considering the materials of the day I would guess it was rubberized and perhaps a little softer when new. There was nothing between the bar and grille shell.

Gene, my '34 had the same. I replaced it with roofing felt(tar paper) as it seemed close. Maybe the original hardened over the years. I also added a piece between the bar and shell. Cut to the same size as the headlight bar with no overhang.

Thanks everybody. I get to put these cars together but haven't been lucky enough to be the first one to take them apart. Thanks, Joe
