I bought a '31 Dodge DG8 block for my Chrysler CD8 Roadster under restoration. Have sought out some advice on WPC Site, but not much available. Pistons did not come with engine (perhaps should have been a red flag). Wonder if anyone here can tell me what typical clearance would be between cylinder walls and pistons for engines of that vintage. These DG8 engines had 3" bores I understand, and cylinders currently measue about 3.06", suggesting perhaps they have been rebored. I know we are a site dedicated to Chevrolets, but a comment of what Chevrolet engines had for clearance (to prevent piston slap) would help. Egge has pistons for 3.125" bore (late model Chrysler CD8 spec), and I may need to persue that option if I use this block.

If they are T slot with no steel strut I would say .003" on the side....not front to rear as they may be cam ground out-of-round pistons.

Jack, I have given a lot of thought to putting a serious modern engine in the old girl, but am still leaning toward a vintage straight 8 if I can find everything I need without breaking the bank. If I go 383 automatic or such, I'll look you up and take you for a spin around the block.

Given the type of car you have I would definitely lean towards a vintage straight 8.
