Getting my 1928 Griffin rad cap restored and am wondering if anyone know's if this cap had a gasket on it or was the flexable tin plate inside was the seal?
If this unit had a gasket, what thickness would be required to seal this cap? and if a gasket was used what material was used? Rubber? or?

My Griffin cap does not have a gasket. Other caps had a fiber gasket so I think that the Griffin would also originally have a fiber gasket. Thickness would be dictated by how it positions the Griffin on the radiator.

Hey Chipper with your Griffon cap, do you have any leaking with no gasket in place? my cap has some pitting on the tin preasure seal so I am going to media blast it and fill in pits with JB weld to true it up.
Will be on the search for some gaskets of different thickness to see which one seals the best without putting to much preasure on the locking mech.

I've never installed my Griffin cap so can't tell you how well it works or what the seal looks like.
