The rear cross member on my '61 is rusty and weak and I want to replace it. The original is riveted to the rear frame railes so the rivets must be removed and the replacement bolted in. This piece is right next to the rear bumper and a hard hit to the bumper would necessitate replacement. There are reproduction parts available, but they are not identical to the original. I bought one, and it appears the original must be cut out and the new one welded in. Does anyone have any experience using the repros? I found a good used one, but i feel it is priced too high; $150.00 plus $37.00 shipping. I would much appreciate any input I can get! Has anyone used a repro?
