Gidday all.

My name's Glen and I'm from Christchurch, New Zealand, but currently living in Kerikeri in the Far North.

I recently acquired some old 1936 Chev bits... engine, gearbox, front axle, diff., wheels.

It was mainly the wheels that I liked, thinking that they would be perfect on an old school, early lakes roadster, style of thing, but now I want to use all the parts if possible.

The main problem I have (and hopefully can be helped with by folks here) is that the engine is missing some parts...
Fuel pump
Starter
Clutch
Flywheel
Exhaust and inlet manifolds

So I'm on the lookout for these bits to get the engine complete before going any further. I will make my own exhaust headers and intake manifold, but the main thing to find will be the flywheel, clutch and starter. Can I adapt something from another car? Surely someone's done that before! Can I use the whole transmission (from flywheel back) from another car and still use the original torque tube setup?

If anyone can help with info regarding these parts (interchangeability with other makes/models etc.) or if you have original parts you want to sell (and ship to New Zealand), please let me know.

Cheers,

Glen.

Oh... and Merry Christmas to you all. gsanta

Welcome to Chatter. Most of us here are "restoration" not modification. As you probably already know with a lot of work anything can be adapted to fit and work with anything, it depends on how much work you are prepared to do and equipment you have access to.

can get parts here or ebay. watch 1936 chevy stuff on ebay and all will appear sooner than later. post the same question here in the 1936 slot, they know more than I, as probably 1934-35-36-37-38-39 body might take that engine. good luck and happy holidays.

Glen,
You will need to know if your parts are for a Master Series (6 bolt wheels) or Standard Series (5 bolt wheels) car. You mentioned a front axle so I am guessing Standard Series. Engine stuff will be the same. Clutch stuff will be different. We can help you with some interchangeability if we know exactly what you have. Some of those parts are pretty heavy. It would be better to find them closer to home than Stateside, if possible. Good luck.

Hi Mike,

I have re-posted my opening post in the 1933-1936 forum here...

https://vccachat.org/ubbthreads.php/topics/329205/1936_Chev_parts_help/suggestio#Post329205

Chev Nut asked the same question about 5 bolt vs 6 bolt wheels. It's 5 bolt and I have given some casting numbers in that thread for better identification.

I agree about trying to source stuff locally. I already have a couple of parts on the way from the US that were not too expensive including shipping.

Thanks for your interest,

Glen.

Hey Glen, sent you a message via PM. No parts, just wanted to introduce myself. I am married to Kiwi Girl from Pukekohe. Met her in Sydney whilst she was in Uni and I was on my high school graduation trip courtesy of Uncle Sam and on leave. Gulp-44 years ago. If you spot anything near here you need me to have a look at for you please let me know, not a problem as time allows. I usually am in New Zealand at least once, if not twice a year. Our oldest daughter has chosen to live there and we have Grandkids and my Mother-in-law.

Glen I'm tony, just purchased a 1936 chevy 4 Dr standard, still has 6 cyl inline engine and has 17 inch 5stud 4:75 artillery wheels,I'm keeping mine as stock as I can,but changing it to 12 volt, with electric fuel pump, signals halogen headlines with led signal lites in the h/l pot. Also the wiring is crumbling badly so I'm replaced the wiring with a 18 circuit fuse panel, retiring from frt to rear. I'm having trouble locating hub caps to fit my wheels. If I can help you along the way send a message. We live in langley ,B.c. Canada,15 minutes north of the Washington border,on the west coast..

Hi Tony,

Shipping costs from your side of the world to New Zealand are steep, so I'm trying to get stuff locally if I can… but thanks for the offer.

The wheels I have are the same… 17 inch artillery style 5 stud. But mine have the clips for the hubcaps and I saw in another thread you posted in that yours don't have the clips. How do the caps stay on? I posted a link in that other thread ( https://vccachat.org/ubbthreads.php/topics/330454/1936_Chevrolet_Hubcaps#Post330454) to some caps on ebay. The auction has ended now I think, but they looked good. Hopefully you'll find something suitable.

Cheers,

Glen.
