Posting in the hopes that someone else has run across this.

My 24 touring is wired exactly as the factory schematic directs. With the generator wire (Brown wire from ammeter) connected the engine will not shut off when you turn the ignition key to off. I have taken voltage readings with the switch in the on and off positions and the switch is working correctly. If I disconnect the generator wire then the engine will start and stop as it should. My guess is the generator is feeding back into the electrical system. Anyone ever have this happen?

Is your keyed switch built into the light switch? I have toggle switches on both of mine. I am thinking the ammeter is connected to the light switch in mine. I am not under the dash and they are not accessible right now. Install a kill switch.

Thanks Ken,
I thought of that but I want to keep it factory original. It has the original light/ignition switch that came with the car when new. During the restoration I disassembled, cleaned and inspected the switch so I know it is in good working order. I am going to pull the switch this weekend and begin wringing out the whole system. I'm sure I will figure it out just was curious if anyone else ever had this issue or had some idea where to check first.
Merry Christmas!!

Goldenwarrior you have the generator and ignition wire on the same connector at the switch. When you turn the switch off you are getting a backfeed from the generator back to the distributor that keeps your engine running. Remember , as long as the generator is turning it's producing electrical curren back into your electrical system. Put your distributor wire on a different terminal and you should be ok. I hope this helps.

Steve,
You are correct. I pulled everything out on Tuesday eve and that is exactly what I found. i had a reproduction harness from a Rhode Island company and instead of the yellow wire to the ignition it had a small red. Somehow I crossed the 2 small reds and the large red. Rewired and it works perfectly. Thanks for taking the time to repsond. Greatly appreciated.
Best regards and Merry Christmas
