There is one on EBay and I was wondering if the 1934 3 speed sedan(car) transmission is the same one used on the 1936 Chevy pickup with a 3 speed synchro tranny? I'm looking for a replacement. Thanks...

Mtelow,

A pickup trans fits a car but not vice versa. The truck needs a case with casting number 590532 or another number like 590715, both of which have 3/8-16 threaded lugs on the sides for the pedals and ebrake to bolt to. The car case, 590695, does not have those threaded lugs. The internals are the same.

The $300 one on ebay has the 590695 car case and also a U-joint housing that won't work on a '36 pickup. The speedo drive needs to be above the U-joint, not below it to clear the MC. Ahh, hydraulic brakes.

I have an extra 590532 case.

I've seen some of those ebay transmissions with prices like $750+. I got one from a member of this forum for $25. He'd been offering it at swap meets for that price and nobody was interested so I paid that + shipping.

I would be very leery of one claimed to be "rebuilt" because some of the parts needed to properly set the end play on the synchronizers are long extinct.

Thank You Brino. That information sure helps. I have a spare transmission that came with the truck. Unfortunately, it's competely seized up. The splined shaft doesn't turn and I can't get it to shift. The one in the truck has a broken tooth from one of the gears, probably 1st that I found when I drained the oil, and it's not going into gear well. Mostly 2nd to 3rd. Just grinds. If I stop and try it again, and it goes in, it shifts fine after that. I'm using the 160W oil from the Filling Station I believe. I still need to pull the tranny from the truck. Hopefully after the holidays. I need to come up with a plan to get this fixed by Spring. Mike

I would take a part your spare transmission , even though it is stuck there could be pieces in it that are useable, like the gear with the broken tooth.

I have learnt the expensive way....dont dispose of any parts you have until you dont have the car that will need repairs.
