I'm trying to remove the shift knob from the shift handle on my 33. I realize it just threads on but this one is really stuck. I don't want to ruin the knob or the handle. Before I pop a vein in my neck, anybody have a suggestion? Thank, Joe

Thanks. I'll give those ideas a try. Are the knobs bakelite? Thanks, Joe

I believe they are hard rubber with a brass bushing (threaded).

I have some new old stock gearshift knobs for 1931 and 1932 and they appear to be Bakelite with a threaded insert. The replacement knobs were made of hard rubber and there was no threaded insert...it was a push-on knob instead.

The push-on knob began in 1934. There was a rubber insert to grip the rod.

I had to just break mine off with a hammer and purchase a new one from the filling station.

Place the shifter upside down & make a"cup" around the base of the knob with tape' Fill the tape with penetrating oil. Wait. See what happens.

All of the above seems like goods ideas. The heat can come from a Hair Dryer. Worked for me and it was safe.

Good Luck

I got it removed. It took soaking it with penetrant, some heat & a strap wrench to remove it. I still almost popped a vein in my neck. Thanks everybody...Joe
