Only a comment from the side line.

The cheapest system for insuring hobby cars in Norway
costs the following: (Two companies at nearly same level and conditions.)

Value up to USD 38.500 yearly USD 55,-, covering up to 3000 miles without any special agreement. You have to be member of a car club for one year before getting that low insurance. Parked in locked storage at home. Free towing to your home if not possible to repair the car on the travel. On travel full covering insurance also when parked on the street.

We can declare all needed information electronically or ask a certified club member to do the job for us for a small fee. You have to present at least 10 pictures to go with the application to tell the condition of the car. If you later make improvements and adjustments changing the value, new pictures will be needed. You need a review each 10 years.

We have insurances for storage cars, cars under restoration, original and modified cars. They differ with the grade of risk, and if you need a higher value than 38.500, that also cost more and you cannot declare yourself.

PS. Why does Taylor use an A-F**D woodie (instead of a Bow Tie car) in their ads in G&D?? It should be a Bow Tie in our magazine, shouldn't it?

Very good experience for many years with many cars and bikes but they would not add my pick up until it was restored. They felt the unrestored pick up was to risky.

I tried to sign with Hagerty when I met a rep at a cruise night. Had a stand with a Hagerty sign and brochures / pamphlets. ( This happened in August of 2012 ) I was up front with him telling him I drive the car every day ( weather permitting ) from June till the first snow was predicted.

He asked me how many cars I owned and how many drivers. At that point in time I had 3 cars / 3 drivers......My youngest son (he was 24 at the time), he drove a mercury sable. My wife and I.....we shared a '93 Chevy Suburban, and the '37 Chevy MD, which I drove ( my wife is afraid to drive it, concerned about damaging it ).

He said he couldn't help me because there was an equal number of drivers / cars.

The fact that I admitted to driving the car to work as there were cruise nights almost every afternoon / night during the week within the 5 surrounding towns which I attended directly from work. He said that deemed it a daily driver. He also said that if I acquired another car to off set the driver / car ratio he could probably work something out.

My response was....why would I buy another car?? Why would I take on the expense?? Cost of insurance, maintenance, excise tax, state inspection.....

Currently I'm still in the same boat......2 drivers, 2 cars.......the Suburban and the '37 MD.

From your own description you are describing a daily driver. That removes it from the definition of a vintage/collector car/ect. Hagerty Insurance is designed for the vintage/collector/ect car. The daily driver falls in the area of the everyday modern driver and would be insured for that condition by the more common insurance agencies like Allstate, USAA, or any other main line insurance companies.. You would be exposed to many opportunities to do damage to your car and should be insured for that eventuality.

Here in Illinois you can get a ticket driving daily with antique plates, Also do not fool yourself by ignoring the limitations one has with antique car insurance, Insurers might try to deny coverage if you misrepresent the use. If you have assets proper insurance is step one when it comes to protecting those assets.

I have a 1927 Chevy Capital AA 4 Door also a 1927 Chevy Touring car, a 1936 Chevy 1/2 ton and a 2010 Corvette LT3 Convertible and a 1953 Packard Caribbean. My tow car is a 2011 Suburban.

My daily driver ( the '93 Suburban ) covers 15,000 miles a year. That is a continous 12 months. The '37 MD covered 2,000 miles from mid June to mid Nov. of 2012, approx. 5 months. If I start in April ( 2015 ) and end in mid Nov. that is 8 months, weather permiting. So to me, a daily driver, is 12 months a year. Rain, Shine, sleet / snow.

I do not use antique plates on my '37 because I don't want the restictions that are implied.

I know I'm nit-picking but I'm always up front with those I deal with. I drive the '37 in nice weather only. It gets locked up in my garage at night.

As my signiture says.......old cars are ment to be driven....and I will. (after the repairs are done)

As a side note....May you all have a Merry Christmas !!

Appraisals - A common car like a Chevrolet or a car valued less then $25,000 most insurance companies are OK without an appraisal. If for some reason your car is valued more then others like it or it is an unusual model then it is a good idea to get that documented via an appraisal. An appraisal protects you in the event of a stolen car or a totaled car, because the car and its condition has been documented. I'm a certified appraiser with over 125 cars appraised by me.

That's good advice. Trying to document after an incident would be a task and also the appraisal could come in handy when selling.

Hagerty is giving you the opportunity to protect your investment. Driving it to work & grocery stores is asking for trouble. They consider this a high risk so they won't want to insure it. We can drive 365 days a year here but I won't subject any of my cars to the unknown, Some people have no respect for the cars we restore...Joe

Beware that unless each driver in the house has a newer model car registered and insured Hagerty will not insure your classic.

They wouldn't insure my 60's military jeep because I drove a '61 falcon as my regular car (plated with regular plates and insurance). The wife drove a 94 toyota but since my car wasn't 20 years or newer I was out of luck.

I pressed them on it and finally got a wishy washy excuse about the falcon being too old and unreliable tempting me to use the army jeep as my primary transport. Their company, their rules, I can live with that.

Refusing to insure me because my daily driver is old is a load of smelly stuff though, expecially after they pulled that "driving a Model A for 365 days" stunt. Its ok for hagerty to drive around in a car 30 years older than my falcon and make a big show of it but they won't insure a antique plated jeep when i've got regular plated cars in the garage to drive.

If you're reading this Hagerty guys that old falcon hasn't ever left me stranded and yes, I toss all your stuff from the goody bags at car shows bananadead

I have used the same collector car insurance carrier since 1982. If they asked then what I drive everyday I do not recall. I have not provided that information since. These new cars are too rough riding and I'm seriously thinking of selling my 2013 and I spotted a nice looking 1980 Cadillac Fleetwood that I may buy for every day use. Our secondary car is 17 years old, not far from 20 years.
