I see that The Filling Station is selling a replacement oil distributor that will accept a filter. I know that the traditionalists will say that it is not necessary but is there a good reason NOT to put it in?

I would think it would increase the chances for leakage as there are now more parts in the system.

Cost and leaks. My opinion is there are plenty of other places to spend your $$$$. I can change the oil many times for the cost of the filter.

An oil filter does not filter out the water or gas that gets into the oil and on an old car those two things can do more harm than anything else. An larger particles, if there are any, will just settle to the bottom of the pan.

Thats good to know as the water was one of my main concerns. Hopefully with the work I'm having done on the Head and a new head gasket will eliminate the rusty look of the oil.

In studying the Billy Possum oil filter conversion, his web site says you will need a new style higher pressure pump and pump screen. So, there's a lot of money and work involved in this project if you really want it!

Yeah Bill y is a great guy, recommends that you upgrade to his pump, screen, and then you can add on the external filter portion as well.

Looks like a very nice configuration
