Most folks in 'here' would say the biggest you can put in your '48 is a "216." Backroads post is a prime example of that.

A few others would say a "235."

I doubt you'd get much "support" to installing anything "bigger" than a '235.'

216 engines are not all that hard to come by if you look around or advertise for one. I have a '48 216 engine sitting in my boneyard and I know that other dudes have 216 engines available as well. laugh laugh laugh

JYD,
I don't promote or demote anything on someone else's car, I just ask and answer Q-U-E-S-T-I-O-N-s.
By The Way, I like Cars and trucks new, old, stock, original cars and trucks, restored cars, modified cars, junk cars and sometimes even hot-rodded cars.

But I don't like Low Rider cars, and I don't like Boyd Coddingtons T.V. show.

I like NHRA drag races, NASCAR races and horse races, I even like DAWG races!
Anything else you want to know? I will try to answer any of your non-personal type questions.

Art Arfons..Damn I haven't heard that name in a conversation for 40 years.

BTW Jaceypoo, bigger doesn't absolutely make better. I'm building a 235 right now that will produce over 300hp. Better than most 327's. And I plan on putting it in my '48 Aero because my Aero's original is history. If I had it tho, I would opt for the stock motor.

Build your car the way your eyes see it. The sweat will make you appreciate it alot more.

Boyd C.'s build a "classic" from a box is what I call it. That isn't car building, just boys with lots of money and no rightousness. Give me a junker and the Chevy Master Catalog anyday.

Good question about 'originality' Skippy.

The 'talk' in here is just like the politicians:

righteousness followed by double-talk followed by righteous indignation followed by double-talk, etc. etc.

Amazing!!!

Different strokers for different folkers, Bill42

Nothing is a one size fits em' all for me!
I do have a passion for restoreing to original Chevrolets, but I also have room for one that has A/C and goes VAARROOOOM!

I likem' all,...long, short, wide and tall, I likem' ALL!

I am with the majority of the rest of the guys - I prefer the stock 216cid, but to answer your question, the skys just about the limit. Considering the space under that hood you could easily FIT a big block. I am sure if you really wanted to go to the trouble you could FIT a 502cid crate engine. You will need to be prepared to chase the new power & weight all around the car / brakes / trans / cooling / suspension / steering / fuel / ect. Do yourself a favor and go stock. It will hold it's value better and will be a lot easier in the long run. Good luck with your project. Stick with it, it will give you a lifetime of enjoyment.
