I have a 1931 Chevrolet 5 Passenger Coach. I am replacing all 5 tires with Wide White Walls. Coker has:
1) BF Goodrich 2 3/4" White Walls 475/500 19

2) Firestone 2 5/8" White Walls 475/500 19

What would recommendation be for closest to as supplied in 1931. If not one of above where and what should I consider?

Thanks Don

Of the two, I would go with the B.F. Goodrich tire.

By the way, back in 1931 white wall tires were double white walls (white walls on both the inside and the outside of the tire), not single white walls.

I have Diamont Tred Goodyear tires on our 31 Coupe and they are marked 4.75 - 19. I bought them because they were marked 4.75-19 instead of 4.75-5.00 - 19.

I have heard the Firestone tires will not fit in a fender well without letting the air out. I loaned a friend my spare one time because his did not have enough air in it because of his fender well.

I was under the impression that white wall tires never came from the factory during 1931. Is this correct?....Joe

That is true. Whitewall tires were not factory installed in 1931.

Whitewall tires were aftermarket accessories that were installed by the dealer at the customer's request.

The Goodyear black wall diamond tread like Back Road has described is what I see in factory photos I rec'd from GM Heritage Center. Those tires are available from Kelsey tire. Kelsey tire makes them. If you contact smallhurst through the user list, Rusty will get them cheaper for you. If you're dead set of white wall, that same tire come that way also...Joe

I purchased my Goodyear tires at the Early Ford Store in Springfield, Ohio. Saved the shipping.

I recently purchased BFGoodrich Silvertown tires for my '31 Phaeton. Main reason(s) they fit in the fender wells fully inflated and were one of the suppliers in 1931. Unfortunately the tread pattern is not the same as the original Goodrich Silvertowns.
