I got Picked Up My Engine Hoist Yesterday, Torin 2 Ton Model... Getting closer to pulling the Driveline out Want to make a Wood Stand to sit the Engine in/ On when I remove it. I was thinking to make one to sit the Driveline on the 3 Original Mounting Points, HOWEVER I want to be able to remove the Bell Housing so I can check the flywheel and Clutch disc. So I am Thinking that I can build a Simple Wood Frame Set-Up that I can sit the Drive line down on and support it via the two side rails where the oil pan sits ?!? Figure I would build something like this: 1929 Engine Stand/ MountFigure I could build this mostly scrap wood from shop, screw it all together and then mount it securely on a 24x48 piece of 3/4" thick or so Plywood. Then I could sit on a set of my Harbor Freight 1000 lb Dollies so that I can push it around and work freely on it. Was also thinking of putting a small block on the back of the Plywood to support the Transmission WHEN it is bolted on, to reduce the OVERHUNG load and ANY stress it may impose on the Engine and Crankshaft !! This concept will also allow me to freely work on the front of the engine as well as the top. then also paint everything when re assembled. FULL ACCESS to all except Bottom... Any thoughts, Input, Ideas, are greatly welcomed and Appreciated... First time doing this with an Antique so not sure of the UNKNOWNS.. NOT YET ANYWAYS !!

Thanks Dean, I seen those plans and printed out a copy. might be simpler then what I am trying to do, but work just fine.
Steve, got both your emails. Thanks... Looks like what I am going to TRY to do. Probably NOT look nothing like my Drawing OR what your does. As long as it WORKS I will be fine.
Figure I will be WORKING on the engine some while it is in the stand so want it STABLE & Secure. Main Reason Why I out in the SIDE RIB SUPPORTS.

The sales clerk at HF said a lot of people buy the dolly's and just use the casters. That way you can make the stand to suit your needs.

Not sure if you noticed in the pictures of my motor but my motor is mounted on some blocks that I first screwed to a strip of plywood. I then screwed the strip of plywood to another piece that is on a garden cart. The cart has inflatable tires and steering gear on the handle. It allows me to easily move my motor anywhere. I have to confess that the cart came with the purchase of the whole car and motor was already on it but it wasn't on the blocks. I made the blocks high enough to clear the flywheel but not high enough to install the lower bell housing cover.
When painting your engine lift it with straps and paint the oil pan first. Once your satisfied with the pan then you can just lower it back down on the blocks and continue painting the rest of the motor. That's how I did mine and got the whole thing fully covered.

Yes I did notice your block and motor config on the cart, Actually did another design based on that first. That is when I realized I was going to need to pull the housing and such off, and did not KNOW now to hold the motor with out the rear feet !?!? The cart would make it REALLY easy to move it around.

Steve... Yeah I have 6 of the small ones. Four were modified for my Jack Stands for the 1929 !! 1929: Tool Jackstands Plan on finding a way to secure them other then the MONSTER ZIP TIES I am using now. IT all works GREAT !!

I think a couple of "J" hooks would do the job. Similar to a battery hold down rod/hook.

I have a 1927 Chevy Capital AA 4 Door also a 1927 Chevy Touring car, a 1936 Chevy 1/2 ton and a 2010 Corvette LT3 Convertible and a 1953 Packard Caribbean. My tow car is a 2011 Suburban.

ok, here is what i am thinking of building for my drivetrain, if it will work is another story!! 1929 Engine Stand/ Holder Empty1929 Engine Stand/ Holder w/ DrivetrainMay need to reinforce the rear end where the Transmission sits, but the dolly under may handle it just fine. considering the transmission will not be on there all the time.

Ok, got the bulk of it built last night... Engine Stand 1Engine Stand 2Engine Stand 3Ready to drop the engine on it... Will build the Transmission Support when I get the Driveline out and set on here. To make it sure it is right.
