Hello;
I'm new to the forum and am excited about the great help I'm in need of. I'm restoring a 34 1/2 ton and need to know sources for restoring brake cables. I'm also looking for steel rear fenders and running boards. I got fiberglass fenders and boards when I bought the truck and would consider selling these if anyone is looking.

I've owned the same "high cab" '36 pickup since 1965 and even when I first got it decent fenders were very rare. '36 front fenders are not the same as '34-'35 but they will probably fit. A day or 2 ago a pair of '36 fronts showed up on ebay for $2000. That price seems outrageous since I paid $125 for a complete, running '36 pickup in 1965 but somebody who knows how rare they are will probably grab them if they haven't already.

'34-'36 rears show up on ebay occasionally.

Trucks have a hard life and often the fenders have tears that have been "repaired" with bugger welds. Once the bead wire is broken it seems that there is no lasting repair of that piece. It becomes necessary to unroll the bead and put in a new bead wire. That's tedious but doable. I know because I did it on one of my fenders.

Where in Wyoming are you? My wife and I go backpacking and wild trout fishing in the Beartooth Mountains between Red Lodge and Cooke City each year. This August we were pinned down by bad weather (endless rain and snow) but still got in a couple of days of good fishing.

Thanks for your reply. I have the same problem with the bead wire on one of my front fenders. It would be nice to have hydraulic brakes but i want to keep it original so I'm looking to get the old rusted cables rebuilt. I live in Buffalo, Wy east of the Bighorns but have fished and camped many years in the Beartooths. It's beautiful- only in summer.

New old stock brake cables sometimes show up on E bay.

Have you been up the Island Lake trailhead towards Mutt/Jeff Lakes, Becker Lake and Albino Lake?

That is my favorite place in all of Wyoming.

I just spoke with Rich at Midwest Power Products. He said they could do those cables you wanted. About $80.00 for front and $85.00 for rear. Depends if you needed ends and so forth. His number is 877.966.0550. www.midwestbooster.com give him a call and talk to him.
