I've just put my rebuilt 216 back together in my 1939 Master 85. We're in shakedown mode. After noticing it running rough, we pulled the valve cover off to find not much oil in and around the valves. Is this typical or is it symptomatic of something else? Valves appear to be a little loose but nothing serious. Thanks, RegMudd

I don't know what you consider "not much oil" but with the engine warm and running it should be dripping hear and there and a stream comng out of the over flow tube in the center

The oil line could even be the problem? In the rebuild process how was it cleaned? Does it have a kink in it where it comes out of the block and bends upward? I've seen oil lines that looked like they had a lot of crud in them. I got new lines as part of my rebuild. I'll see if I can find a picture of a suspicious line partially coated with crud, and post it.

You could even have a pump issue where a gasket might be missing. I think Gene has commented on the importance of the oil pump gaskets?
