Some have recommended I switch to Hagerty Insurance to cover my 38 Master Deluxe.
-I called Hagerty and all seemed simple enough until my allstate agent got involved.
-My Allstate agent said I needed to provide an appraisal
-Another forum I visit has members who said they were not required to provide an appraisal
-Did Hagerty request an appraisal from you?
Thank you
Mike A

Up here they request one every 5 years. If you had one done in that time frame, they may have had access to it?

No. I decided on the value of my car and sent them a few pictures. I also had to show how (the amounts) my "regular" car was insured.

Hagerty never ask for an appraisal, just stated value & a few pictures of the car & the garage. My Allstate agent was upset that I went direct. I wonder if they get commission?...Joe

I have used Hagerty (I now have Grundy because of cheaper price,I have four vehicles covered by Grundy)I registered on-line with both Company's and neither Company asked for an appraisial. They asked for seversl pictures showing all areas of the vehicles and an estimate of the value of the vehicles. Both company's require enclosed storage and their prices are much cheaper than Allstate and State Farm.

Called Hagerty and told them what I wanted to insure and how much I wanted on the vehicles in case of total loss. Sent them one picture of each car and they took me on. I insured 3 cars for less than the price of one through State Farm. Great people to deal with and very knowledgeable. State Farm not too happy, as they loose their commission on the 3 I took from them. Give Hagerty a call and talk to them is my advice.

I switched to Hagerty from J. C. Taylor for two reasons.

1. One year J. C. Taylor did not bill me and when I was registering for a tour and had to list my insurance company and expiration date I realized I had no insurance for six months.

2. J. C. Taylor would not cover the cars if my Grandchildren were driving our cars.

I have had Hagerty insurance for many years. Switched from J. C. Taylor because of hassle in getting changes made and the fact that they seem to take care of claims well. I have only had one claim at it was settled without problems. Last vehicle I added, I called on the phone to add coverage. Had to supply a photo and engine number. Accepted my value.

Here in PA. I had to provide photos of inside and out all four side's and the price I wanted it to be insured for.

It might be that it was # 10 on vehicles insured with Hagerty and having a policy with them for over 10 years.

Short answer------NO

I've insured my '48 Fleetline with Hagerty for over ten years. Had two claims for about $500 each----a phone call and a couple of pictures and a few days later a check arrives in the mailbox. Never a problem

Now I have my '71 Chevelle insured with them. When I bought it, a phone call, an agreed value and we were good.
Good people to deal with.
Remember, the only thing the local agents are looking for is a commission. Deal direct!!!

Thank you gents, I confirmed with Hagerty all that was required was one picture for stock and 4 pics for custom.

P.S. Wonder why my agent was so adamant about an appraisal?

Because he doesn't know what he's talking about???? He's likely trying to dissuade you so you'll buy his insurance.

As stated, Hagerty required one pic and an agreed value.

Thankfully, no claims, thus far BUT Hagerty takes my insurance payments QUICKLY, each time, every time. dance

Hagerty is the best I have found. There's no annual mileage limit, they only asked for one picture for each vehicle and I can send it from my phone, they accept your value for the car, they insure motorcycles and they have free towing service.

Hagerty is also one of the few companies that would insure a car undergoing retoration and not completely assembled.

My experience with Hagerty tracks with all the others reported. I will add they also cover at least some of the car parts held in inventory for a restoration and a car hauler, if one is owned. I had one claim, the '55 BelAir fuel pump failed, the flat bed tow truck was on site within 45 minutes of my call. Tow coverage is available for all cars owned, including daily drivers. My only fuss would be they wouldn't cover my seldom driven SSR, because it was newer than my more frequently driven truck. But, that is no big deal in my book.

I've been with Hagerty for years and have seven cars insured with them. I've never had a problem. Great people to work with. They get it.

All the Best, Chip

I am somewhat surprised that they are so easy to deal with considering the people that would try to file fraudulent claims or other dishonest transactions.

I've also had good experience with Hagerty. They only requested photos and we agreed on the value. I've used their roadside assistance twice - I was satisfied with the service both times.

Also, they're easy to deal with on the phone. It's very easy to add or remove a car.

I found this not to be the case. I was told I had to have a restored car before they would insure it.

May be another company rep or a supervisor can help? I have coverage on a work in progress and have for about 4 years. I just recently renewed and increased the coverage to reflect progress changes since last year.

My 51 had the body off the frame and the front fenders and hood in storage and they insured it for stated value. Also as progress is made I have the option to increase value (coverage). I did supply them with photos of the major parts and a before photo.

My Allstate agent switched me to Haggarty when I questioned him about having my 48 insured through Allstate. Just had to provice pictures and my replacement dollars.
