A friend of mine is going to look at a 1936 Chevy 1/2T pick-up tomorrow. Unfortunately, I can't go with him. I explained to him that there was a change mid-year in '36 with the truck cab heights and thought I could find a drawing or photo showing the difference I had at one time, but I'll be darned if I can locate it. I can't find anything in the search on here or via Google either. Could anyone post a drawing or photo showing ther comparison of the two trucks? Many thanks, -Bob

TThe early high cab has a slight visor over the windshield......The low cab was much more common.

The high cabs had three door hinges. The low cabs had two door hinges in addition to juice brakes. Richard

Thanks for the info. My friend bought the truck (low cab) and it'll be undergoing restoration this fall.

Good for him. Encourage him to join VCCA and Chat II. Lots of knowledgable people on this site, as you know. Richard

I was reading some of the posts and saw the one asking about high cab and low cab pickups. I have a '37 1/2 ton GC with 2 door hinges. Does the door hinge statement also apply to a '37? Thanks

The high cab/low cab distinction is one of the most misunderstood and mis-used designations in all of Chevrolet truckdom. It is a term used by Chevrolet, to distinguish between the early and late styles of 1936 cabs ONLY. '34 and '35 cabs were similar to, but not the same as an early '36 (high cab). '37 and '38 cabs are similar to but not the same as a late '36 (low cab). The only year to have two types of cab was '36 so it is the only year for which Chevrolet specifies one or the other in its parts catalogs. I hope this helps.

The 1937 and up Chevrolet and GMC cabs were all steel. The late 1936 low cabs still had some wood in them.

If it is like the Aus 37 and 38 models may have wood door frames, wood around the door opening to attach interior lining to and floor panel at front of seat. Tony

'36 low cab has wood hinge posts, a wood arch between the door posts just below the windshield and some thick wood chunks at the bottom of the cowl. I believe the door posts attach to them. '36 high roof has all steel doors (or at least some of them did) and round lower corners on the windshield frame. These two items, and more, I am sure, make them different from the '34-'35 cab.

Many people believe that the '36 low cab pickups are the same as the '37-38's.. This is not so, the '36 cabs still have wood in them, where-as the '37-38 does not. Just last month a man was trying to sell me a pair of front fenders that he claimed was '37-38. I have a '37 GMC that needs a better set of fenders. I compared pix, the '36 had fender mounted spares, the '37 did not. the fenders for a '36 attach to the body completely different than the '37-38.. Pity. the fenders were nice and the price very fair..
