I need to repaint my engine and need a source for the blue-gray paint. I'm hoping I can get it in rattle cans. Can anyone let me know what most use. If there are multiple options it would be great to know them all as I live in New England and some products are only available in certain areas. I'm sure I probably can't get common products used in the CA area for example. If I need to get a paint mixed and use my spray gun that is fine too. If someone has a mix number and paint brand I'll take that info too.

Just looked it up. WOW! Must have gold in it! $150 a qt. That's more than Standox. That's a little crazy.

They have the color mixed to get the most accurate match. A lot of others are not correct.

I have a few cans, recently did my oil pan, valve cover, and push rod cover on my 1929 !!

Paint came from The Filling Station

FS has THE correct color and it does finish our great and looks excellent....Darned if it doesn't match the old paint on my original engine very well. Nice drying time and has a good "satin" finish. Expensive, yep, but is an excellent product.

Whenever you need anything for your car, always check with the Filling Station first because they have a lot of stuff!

Does anyone know anything about Eastwood's ceramic engine paint, chevy gray 29'-52'? The price is a lot better. Less than $45qt shipped.

I don't think that the Eastwood paint is the correct color. However, I would check with them first and ask if they will send you a paint sample to see if the color is actually a dark blue-gray.

If you find out let us know, would be interesting to see if it matches or HOW close it is !!

Quick question. How close would a 33' chevy be to the 31' in engine color. My brother in law's uncle owns one that is 100% original and never been touched. I could compare the Eastwood paint to his if they are the same.

The same gray paint was used from 1929-1952, 1953 sick shift engines and smaller truck engines up to the '60's.

Keep in mind that after 80 plus years the original paint will most likely have changed especially when compared to a fresh mix.

I have not seen the Eastwood paint, but if not doing a show quality restoration for the difference in price I think it's close enough.

I am happy with the Filiong Station paint but I think it has gone up in price since I bought it. The spray can is not your big box quality…it works great and I use the paint on for touch up and you can't see where you have done it.
The real question is, how many vintage parts for you car can you get from Eastwood? Let's support the people that are serving us!

Lycoming Grey. (Aircraft engine paint) Available at aircraft parts stores in rattle cans is an extremely good match. IMO

Would be interesting to see some parts painted with each side by side. FRESHLY PAINTED that is !!

Watch the video and in the video they make the claim that they researched all their factory colors, going to shows, restoration places ect. when formulating them. The color shown looks just like the color of my motor now but I'm not sure what is was painted with before I got it. I have no problem supporting any good vendor but $150qt is actually more than very high in price. I just made a $700 order to the FS so it's not like I'm trying to avoid any good vendor for a few cents. $34 vs. $150 is a big difference. I can buy a lot more parts from the FS with the $116 left over especially if the color is close.

Unfortunately I still have a few cans to sue before I need more, or I would buy and compare . . . I buy the Spray Cans, easier for me to utilize for what I have done. No Spray Rig Here ...

I bought the Eastwood Ceramic Paint and High Temp aerosol paint for the exhaust manifold for my engine.

I think the color looks fine. Perhaps some of the "experts" will chime in with their opinion.

Anyone ever use KBS Motor Coater Kit, see they have a Chevrolet Gray, wonder what COLOR it really is :!:
