Hello everyone, I recently inhierted a 1921 Chevy Speedster although it is a little bit of many years. The engine is a 1928 and it has 21" disc wheels. I am currently going through the engine as it had a lot of water in it where it shouldn't be. It is cleaning up well. My question has to do with the torque on the mains and rods, I can't find any specs on this. Does anyone have an idea of what it should be?

Hey discwheeldude, welcome! This is definitely the correct place to ask questions and get lots of great info.

There is extra info available to you if you join the VCCA. Especially networking with lots of folks who have experience with these vehicles.

I think it is very special that the speedster stayed in the family. ;-)

First, I suggest reading this thread:
https://vccachat.org/ubbthreads.php/topics/241592

As for rebuilding the engine, there's a GREAT blow-by-blow description of a master mechanic (Ray Holland) rebuilding one of these engines. The information is in a flip book that is located in the VCCA members-only area of this web site.

Take a lot of pics and post some here!

Enjoy the journey, Dean

On my first post I was a little nervous, I didn't mean it to come out the way it did. I actually inherited the Speedster from a grade school friend. He brought it over to my house and dropped it in the driveway and said, Merry Christmas! He told me that there was a bit of water in the oil and that it leaked out the front of the engine. It was constructed sometime in the 40's we think. Most of the metal was cut with tin snips and folded over. I do want to get it on the road but it will take some time.
Thanks to those who replied to my first post. I have and am still reading bill Holland,s online book. He doesn't mention torque for the rods and mains, only for the head bolts. It looks like I can get by with re-ringing it and honeing the cylinders. I'll lap in the valves and maybe have the head resurfaced. It has a mechanical advance distributor but the condenser is mounted where the hold down for the caps should be. Where should the condenser be mounted? And where can I find a hold down clip for the cap?
Thanks in advance to everyone who may reply, I do appreciate it!
How can I post pictures?
