Not sure how you're going to insert wire into cowl lacing.

Anyway, I have some stainless steel mechanics safety wire, and using my sheet metal thickness gauge, a #19 metal thickness is the one it will barely pass thru for a reading. The wire is plenty stiff even those its on a small drum.

If you can get it thru the lacing it will not rust and plenty stiff to bend over and stay in place.

There was a discussion on here a while ago about somebody potentially reproducing it............Jim carter ???

I can tell you how you make the lacing look correct. Also the wire size is what will fit through the holes on the cowl. Just use steel wire from the hardware store. If you want to get really detailed you can get Stainless wire.

yes, any advise on this would be appricated. I got the lace from Steel at hershey. How many hools are required. I see there are double holes where lace starts and stops.

It is possible to feed a wire the length of the hood lace. Sharpen the end to a point and while watching TV some evening push it down the center of the lace. You will find it peeks out quite often but just pull it back a bit and push again. It is not necessary to have the wire down the total length like the original but only the distance between the holes in the cowl. It is better the whole length but really tough to get it done. There are two hooks one on each side that tighten the center wire after the ends are secured.

Rich33 be glad your lacing has a pocket for the wire. When I purchased my lacing It did not. It was very hard to push the wire into one of the sides of the lacing. I even used a vise grip to hold the wire and there was so much resistence the wire kept bending. This was after I sharpened the wire and made an entry hole in the lacing. Eventually I did what Chipper suggested. I installed the wire in the ends so I could hook the lacing into the cowl retainer holes. What a pain, I did alot of cussing.
