Hi, I'm having trouble with my 3100 pickup. It's a 1952 all stock with three speed column shift. The second gear keeps popping out when I drive. The lever falls down into neutral and I have to engage it again.
Anyone got an idea on what may cause this?

Never had the problem with the chevy but my 46 CJ-2A Jeep did this and some times it was not at all welcome. Pulling the main drive and installing a shim tightened up things and it worked very well from then on. That was a common cure and involved installing a axle washer from an international pickup. talk

Nicholas,

Do you have a Chevrolet shop manual for your truck? If not, you can view them free of charge at the following web address: http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/ They have the 1948-1951 manual and the 1954 manual. Unfortunately, they don't have the later 48-51 manual with the supplement that covers the 52 and 53 model years, but there's not much difference in the area you're concerned with. Look in the "Transmission" section under the heading "Troubles and Remedies" and you will find mention of possible causes for the slipping out of second gear. I hope this will give you some ideas.

Hi Scott, thanks, I'll look into the shop manual to see if I can get some hints.
