On a restoration I am doing I need to start thinking of getting the chrome done. When My dad did his ground up restoration on his 37 truck back in the early 90's he used Master Platers in California. Not sure if they are still in business or if anyone has a place that might be the "top of the line" place. Thanks for any suggestion's.

No matter who does it, you can bet the price is no where near what it was back in the 90's. mad

I use R&D Finishing in Elizabethton, TN. They have done three complete cars for me, and every piece was just right. Phone 423-543-2440 or 423-543-1722, email rdfinishing@hotmail.com

Get your mind right before asking for quotes. Chrome plating costs have skyrocketed!

All the Best, Chip

The project is I am finishing up the frame off restoration I was doing on grandpa's 1961 Pontiac Bonneville Conv. His dad bought the car new and my dad and I started restoring it a few years ago, but unfortunately since lossing grandpa back in June he never got to see it finished. This car has been a no expense spared project so we have been making it as perfect as we can... ( I even filled any pits in control arms, rear end housing and primed before painting) We have gone a little over board but you do not see many around. Thanks for all the suggestions!!!!

My 52 was rechromed in or about 1978 or 79, the previous owner says the cost was $800.00 for the complete grill, two bumpers and some small bits. A friend had a bumper for a Chrysler 300 done a couple of years ago cost over $1,000.00. talk

Andy,
Speed and Sport in Houston has done some good work for me. They are not cheap but can do good work. Most of their business is shipped in. Craig, owner, is a VCCA member and advertises in the G&D. Have known him for ~ 30 years.

Andy,

The ones I mentioned in Piqua and Dayton, Ohio are within driving distance for you. You could make a round trip in one day and see the work they do. Both have done work for the local region members.

Metal-Brite also has capability of doing chrome on plastic trim pieces. You may need this for interior work.

Faith Plating in Los Angeles. I brought them some bumper guards that looked hopeless, deeply pitted as if they'd been in a landfill for 100 years.

When Faith was done with them they looked like new parts.

That was 16 years ago and they still look perfect. The thin chrome others apply looks great for a couple of years then starts deteriorating.

My next door neighbor is a professional polisher and has been doing it for years. Originally located in Lynn MA he now lives next door to me and moved his shop to Dartmouth MA too. He gets all his plating done at an old shop in Quincy MA. The only part I need chromed is my headlight bar. When I picked up all the parts for this car it was wrapped up like all the others with white tissue type paper but it was not in good shape. Either it had been re-chromed and it wasn't a good job or it was wrapped up like it had come back with all the rest of the chrome but never done.
When I took it next door my neighbor looked at it and smiled. He said he would take it to the plater and he would not even guess how much it would cost these days. I asked him $200 and he had a look that let me know I wasn't even close. He then decided to estimate probably $300-$350. He did tell me that the chrome had to be removed by the de-chroming process, then polished once it was back to bare steel. Then he said it would get copper coated, then nickeled, then chromed. (I'm probably wrong with all that process but he did say that this old timer does it right). He said that often the guy de-plates it then my neighbor does the polishing to keep his costs down, then drops it back off to be plated. Either way, when all is said and done, it looks like I'm in for a decent size bill for just one piece!
