On the spur of the moment at an auction I purchased a 1949 chevy 5 window flat bed truck. The sheet metal is pristine with the exception of one cab corner with has some rust. I have always wanted a 5 window pickup and this seemed like an opportunity since the price and condition were right. Question: Is the sheet metal on a 1- 1/12 truck interchangeable with a pickup, or is it slightly larger? There were several more pickups of the same vintage at the auction and I could not tell by looking if there was a difference. My intention is to remove cab and move it to a more modern frame and running gear. This move was a luck one for me or a bad choice depending on the answer to the above question. Grease monkey

The front fenders and grille and hood and bumper are larger. The cab is the same except for some year to year changes and replacement cab corners are available.

Do you know how much larger? Will this cab look ok on a pickup frame?

The "small" and "large" trucks used the same cab.

Sorry about my asking the same question, my fingers had a mind of their own and typed cab again. What I meant to ask was how much wider and taller are the oversize fenders. Is it so notable that this body will look strange on a pickup frame with a bed from a regular pickup? Want to get it so normal wheels not oversized split rims are being used. Thought the easiest way would be to change frames.

The wheel opening in the big fenders is way too large looking for "normal" sized tires.

I would think you could find a front clip for a 1/2 ton and still use the cab you purchased.
