I Just received my October G & D today, haven't had time to look at it all, but I did notice a beautiful GMC in the centerfold. Not a real problem a Chevrolet cousin. But while driving out for dinner with a few car buddies(owners of all makes) My passenger a fellow VCCA member read to me the proposed Motion 14-07 and as he put it I almost drove my 79 Pontiac, ( another Chevrolet cousin) off the road I was so outraged. Who is coming up with this stuff? Like many other VCCA members I have a few cars, and they are not all Chevrolets. I love all cars and trucks, stock, modified, hot rod, rat rod, you name it, but The Vintage Chevrolet Club of America is just that. Vintage Chevrolet's. Since we added the GMC's why not add the other Distant relatives like my Pontiac!...I know. they have their own clubs, one reason I didn't mind the GMC's so much, as they didn't have a home.
I don't know the exact #'s , but I suspect the members added by GMC truck owners is less than 1% of the VCCA membership. So why would we even think of changing the name let alone have all the associated cost burden by the remaining 99%. And notice the word VINTAGE has disappeared! Whoever suggested this motion must be behind the misguided direction we are heading.
As Director of the Northern Illinois Region I have tried to show all of our members the Petition to repeal the modified motion and the VP's response to the petition. They can decide for themselves, but of the members I have talked to in our region , even those with Personalized cars, all but one feel strongly in favor of the petition.
What we need to do, all VCCA members, is talk to, provide VCCA club info to all Vintgae Chevy owners we see at cruise nights, car shows etc. At a MWM a few years ago we were able to get a new member because I had applications and info in my car.

There are a couple of threads you may want to visit if you haven't already. One in this forum about this very motion and one in the members only area. Motion 14-07 has little chance and there's a movement to overturn the board's decision on modified vehicles in the other thread.

This Forum.

Members only.

I submitted the motion as a protest to the misguided direction this club is headed in. By allowing street rods and non-Chevrolet vehicles in the club, we've abandoned our original mission and we're no longer the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. The word "vintage" will scare away the desired new members who own street rods. How will GMC owners know they're welcome in the club if we don't include them in the name? The BOD should have thought of these things before passing the misguided motions to allow the street rods and GMCs in the club.

If I knew about the petition process, I wouldn't have bothered sending this motion, but I had already submitted it when I learned of the petition. I signed the petition the first day it was available.

All members should feel free to submit motions. If you think of an idea that you think will improve the club or correct a BOD mistake, submit a motion.

I suspect that several of us have had several thoughts along the name change line. On tours we often refer to the VCCA as the Very Chubby Club of America because of the drive, eat, drive, eat, drive, eat sequence of tours. In this case it hopefully will get the attention of the Board so they realize their action may have changed the club from what it originally was set up to be.

To Tiny, I checked last night if anyone had mentioned this, but I guess I should have checked further down the list.

NY ChevyII , now I know how after reading numerous times it still sounded like I was reading a April Fools issue!

As Brewster mentioned on the original thread on this, we accept Littles, etc, and did not change the name

Chipper I love your regions idea of VCCA :)

As I understand it, this motion could be withdrawn. If not withdrawn and it continues to the Board, it is my opinion that it most certainly will fail and it should.
Since Monroe, Little and Scripps-Booth have not been incorporated into the name why would GMC be incorporated as well? I was the member that first proposed the GMC motion and this issue was asked by the Board at that time, should GMC should be incorporated into the VCCA name. My answer was absolutely not! Nor should there be a mention of Rapid, Reliance or Randolph trucks, the precursor to GMC trucks.
There is a lot of unwarranted discussion and worry about this motion and as the maker of the motion has stated, if he had known about the petition regarding the personalized vehicles, this motion would not have been sent forward.
As for Chevrolet powered street rods rushing in mass to join the VCCA, I really don’t think that is going to be a problem. The problem is trying to recruit original stock Chevrolet owners to join. I have tried for the last few years handing out membership applications at various car shows that I take my truck to and time after time they are refused due to the perception that the “VCCA is a group of grumpy old guys set in their ways”. I have been told that was one of the reasons that the Florida chapter was dissolved.
I would suggest that if you’re unhappy with the direction of this organization, as others have suggested as well, get involved and devote time and energy to advancing this club. I have always felt that you get what you give.

We only got our G&D yesterday. I read that motion to the Mrs. She said I hope you never purchased a "Life Membership" because we used to talk about it. I told her I never did. She said good.
